I've got some good photos I would like to put into frames. The trouble is they don't print to the size of the frame, in this case A4.

Is there a 'sizing for dummies' type guide around, or some simple steps I can follow?

You'll need to crop the photos to the same ratio as A4. Then when you print to A4 size it will scale correctly. From experience you might be better off getting frames that are the right dimensions as it'll be less hassle.

Any graphics app will be able to crop an image.
Even Google Photos will crop an image using the DIN ratio (A4, A3, A2 etc)

For the best result, your image should ideally be (cropped to) exactly 3508x2480px. This is at 300ppi. If your image is smaller than this, you can probably get away with 200ppi, even 150ppi, but keep this ratio.

All true, but you might spoil the composition by cropping. If so you'll need a custom frame, or a bigger frame and a mount.

That said, you can improve the composition by cropping too.

For even better results your image should be a bit bigger than 3508x2480. Printing at the exact size means you'll need to mount the print perfectly and hope that the mount isn't slightly too big. Either way, you'll see a white border. Go for 3800x2800-ish to give you a 1/2 'bleed' all of the way round.

I've just done some resizing of 4 images, using the advice here. I'm going to the printers tomorrow and I will report back with the results.

Thanks everyone, it's kind of you all.
