Photography Gods,

I'd like to have a dabble at time lapse film with my Astak Action Pro 3 and need some software I expect. So what would you recommend? I'm thinking free stuff to start with and see how I go. Also do I need a fandango laptop to run it?

DigiCamControl is the best free one. ( IMHO ) They just released stable 1.2 version. Allows you to output directly to a movie file.

You do need to have a power cable for the camera for long timelapses, if you are using digicam control the usb connection to the camera drains the battery.

An alternative is to buy an intervalometer.

The GoPro free software is really good for this.

Does the camera have an option to take photos at a set interval? If so that will be the best place to start. In terms of stitching them together I use Virtualdub. Quite easy to use, needs a reasonable amount of power to be quick, but if you don't have it then just do it before bed and leave the PC/laptop chugging away overnight!

It is one of these http://www.dogcamsport.co.uk/astak-action-pro-helm...

It can take photos a various intervals and what I want to do is set it going until the battery runs out then put them in some sort of software that will make the pictures more, like a fast slide show, which is how I imagine time lapse videos work.

Windows MovieMaker - free and pre installed on most PCs will do this.

I've been using my GoPro but the new iPhone 6 does cracking time-lapse out of the box.
