I did this one on 3rd December. Canon 300mm F2.8 plus 2x tele-converter on a 5D3; 1/160th at F9, ISO 100. I kept increasing the shutter speed until it looked right, then a bit of contrast adjustment, sharpening and a square crop.

Now that is one sharp pic of the moon in full glory, and just a quick reminder that there will be a rare super moon lunar eclipse this weekend (27th and 28th September).

I tried taking a few pics tonight using my RX100 but I'm ashamed to say that the pics just aren't sharp enough to be posted on here, seems a visit down to John Lewis or Jessops for a better camera and lense may be on the cards for tomorrow...

Well we've all gone 'moon mad' biggrin

I was also out taking moonshots tonight. The EOS M with the 55-250 produced an acceptable shot. Out of curiosity I also tried my lads Fuji superzoom bridge camera. Big zoom...but you could see the difference in IQ.

Neither were worth posting. Close your eyes and picture the moon............yep, they looked just like that biglaugh

Had a quick try tonight in my garden while the sky was clear. Taken on an old Paragon 400mm lens@ f6.3 with a 2x teleconvertor on my 60D. Cropped and PP'd a little. crap tripod and couldn't find my remote so still leaves a bit to be desired, but it's all practice...

A reminder its a total lunar eclipse tonight at aprox 3:40 I think. I don't have any sort of decent camera, but would be grateful for any pictures uploaded on here in the coming days.

Cheers

Apparantly it's a "super blood moon" !! My kids are impressed and have asked to be woken up.... however I fear they may be a tad dissappointed laugh

Weird...here in Brighton when I last looked out about an hour ago it was definitely only white blood cells I could see.

It was big! It was bright....and it was very very white confused

It started off orange down here in Kent but within 2hrs, as it climbed higher, it slowly turned white.

I'm trying to get some pictures but struggling to get it in focus. I don't have the best lens (Nikon 70-300mm) but I was hoping to get something half decent.

go to manual focus and in live view use the zoom feature to get close. it's the easiest way I've found to focus

I finally managed something ok. I found live view wasn't giving me the best image, looking through the viewfinder I found if I pulled the focus back just a touch it was a lot better. It's a cheap lens so wasn't expecting miracles.

Nikon D3200, Nikon 70-300mm f/4-5.6G. 300mm, f/8.0, 1/125.

Probably about as good as it's going to get with this lens and my (lack of) knowledge! Certainly nothing like some of the images posted here!

Even the moon is not at infinity! Now just add 2 stops exposure smile

Utterly impossible to get a clear shot this morning in my area.

A combination of early morning mist, celestial movement and lunar eclipse conspired against me. Not enough available light from the moon to get a clear exposure, increasing the shutter speed just introduced motion blur above 2 seconds.

Bah!

Here's my effort, yet again slow shutter speed didn't help, but only got a kit zoom and it's ok rather than outstanding.
Taken in Norfolk around 3-40am. variable cloud didn't help matters.

Jealous of the red moons! I woke up and saw it but couldn't get a clear shot.

This one is from 10pm last night

I went out early on to have a bit of a practice run, but I'm having trouble getting a decent focus. Not sure if that's me, or the lens. I'm using my Pentax Kx, with an old Tamron 500mm mirror lens and a Hanimex 2x convertor. Another issue was that the moon then gets quite big in the frame, and I was also having trouble not cutting the edges off.

I wasn't going to get up for the red moon, but then I was awake anyway. Had even more trouble getting things right, especially in terms of focus, as there was so much less to be seeing.
