Around Midnight, the Full Moon in all it's glory
Full Moon 28 Sept 2015 by Tim White, on Flickr
Around 4am - The Blood Moon. This has had a little cropping and noise reduction (oh, and a plane removed!).
Either AF was struggling or the there was so little light that the blood moon shots have all come out a bit soft. ISO 3200 and a little NR isn't going to have helped either. I guess I need a lens faster than f/6.3 to get a really good shot when there is so little light available.

Struggled for ages last night taking a photo, came out blurry no matter what, tried manual focus, different aperture, dropping zoom slightly in case the lens was duff etc etc, even indoors with a tripod and remote shutter release
Forgot about the simple fact that the moon is moving and a 10" exposure isn't going to help matters at all

You need to use the rule of 500 (apparently) when doing astro photography if you want to avoid motion blur.Forgot about the simple fact that the moon is moving and a 10" exposure isn't going to help matters at all
500/Length of lens in mm = Max shutter duration in seconds.
Here's my efforts, I only have a 24-70 lens!
Couldn't autofocus during the eclipse, took a while to get the manual focus right.
Also made a time lapse for the second half!

I had a similar problem - its a lot more of a challenge that the normal moon... too long an exposure and it's blurry, to short and its dark/noisy.. this is the best I came up withAround 4am - The Blood Moon. This has had a little cropping and noise reduction (oh, and a plane removed!).

I totally missed the actual 'Blood Moon' on Monday morning, but I just caught the 'Kind of Red Moon' rising on Monday evening.
Anyone any good with Photoshop?
No, not really.Anyone any good with Photoshop?
Wow, ages since I have posted here. Non of my images were that sharp to be honest, and I was having the same issues regarding focus on the red moon.. alas I just cobbled my evenings attempts into just one photo, I kinda like it.

Have to say that some stunningly good photographs of the moon have been posted on here over the last few days by various more skilled members which further strengthens my justification with the wife for needing a better camera and zoom lens.
I took a few pics a few nights ago using the RX100 on manual focus which I was moderately pleased with, pics are shown below:
Last night at around 8pm I was driving home and spotted the moon in full glory, so pulled over, switched the RX100 to manual mode and tried taking a few pics, which when I viewed tonight were totally black so was totally unimpressed with the pics, however, when I applied a few filters the results rather surprised me, does the moon have an atmosphere?

Tim I have to say that the first pic of the moon you took is staggeringly sharp with quite exceptional detail, might I say is very impressive indeed, and this is the type of pic which I would like to achieve once I've bitten the bullet and purchased an SLR with a decent zoom lens, as for taking pics of the blood red moon, think I will leave that to the experts on here.Full Moon 28 Sept 2015 by Tim White, on Flickr
