So I just got the RX100 MKIII
Discussion
Cheers guys, that's reassuring. It's the most money I've ever spent on a camera ever, even 2nd hand it was over £265!!! They seem to hold their value very well though so I'm treating it as more of an investment than a sub £150 camera that will depreciate to £0 pretty quickly.
Having little sprogs means I want some good quality pictures of them all growing up, smartphone cameras just don't cut it for that.

I love my M3 and try to forget about the cost...
Got the M2 last night, it has a reassuring heft to it that I really like and seems to take a lovely picture. My god though, how may settings, the number of icons it has at it's disposal is mind boggling.
I really need to learn more about taking photos.
As you said though the intelligent auto setting is a doddle to use. I think I got a bargain really, Ebay, £265 and it appears to be in mint condition.

I don't agree with many of their points though, having used both cameras side by side.Cheers for posting.

I can assure you that touch to focus in video on G7X works much faster and better than manual focus by ring on RX100.
The clicking ring itself is waaay more useful to select aperture or shutter speed than the free spinning one on RX100.
The fact that the display doesn't tilt down? Just turn the camera upside down for that 3 times a year when you will be shooting from above your head.

Picked my RX100 MKii second hand the other week, very impressed with it so far, so easy to just stick in your pocket when you go out any where. Usually lug around a Sony A65 and a few lenes and this little camera is a match for that in most conditions. Love it

I wonder if anyone has experienced the same problem as I have, on two cameras now, or any ideas on why it happened what to do?
My Sony RX100 Mark 3 arrived a week or so ago. I checked it indoors briefly and all seemed well. I took it out for the first use proper and as soon as it was switched on and the lens deployed the lens shutters were visible top and bottom again. I turned off and on and no solution. Fully zoomed out these don't block the image but at anything near wide angle they ruin it.
It was cold so I wonder if this is temperature dependent, but not excessively (3 to 4 degrees C so well above zero) but should not be so limited or it would be useless for work in winter etc. or one of a rogue batch?
The supplier - DCUK - was really good and quickly organised for it to be collected and a replacement sent, after they checked it personally (boxes normaly sealed) but that did exactly the same thing first time it was taken out. Tried turning it and off but no solution. The battery was fully charged.
If not, I have now lost faith in the machine. My issue is that I have purchased a spare battery, the extra Sony grip and now a Richard Francic grip from the USA all of which I will lose the value of as they'll not be any use for an alternative camera. However, I think I will be so lacking in confidence and worried that it will go wrong at any moment that I dare not risk persevering and, potentially, losing shots.
Is this just bad luck, or something others have experienced?

Have heard of the front blades sticking on older cameras ( on DPReview forum) but not on new ones, were the blades able to be move out of the wy any more? Possible oil/ lube still on the blades? Hope you get it sorted buddy.
I hadn't heard of that, so probably not just bad luck for me. Even when back indoors, so warm, they wouldn't move back all the way. Same with this one.I think I'm going to ask for a refund then sell the extras for whatever I can recoup. I really have no faith in it now and can't risk driving 100s of miles or planning days away for photography to find it screws up. God knows what I can get as a replacement though. This bring intended as a stop gap and carry anywhere camera until I get some money owed me and get a DSLR or 645z.

An update. Camera to be collected tomorrow for a refund, and a late bid on a nearly new Sony A6000 made before leaving for a distant work related appointment as a replacement. Now wondering what that will be like!

I'm sold on getting one especially as my current compact is showings it's age (I could just spend 10 quid on a new battery but man maths is working wonders)
Given the potential shutter issues I'd want to buy from somewhere decent. Seen them close to £500 or less but often shipping from overseas. Any thoughts on these companies

I'd buy a Mk 1 from UK rather than a Mk 3 from HK. And also save £200. (I have both and image quality is pretty similar)Given the potential shutter issues I'd want to buy from somewhere decent. Seen them close to £500 or less but often shipping from overseas. Any thoughts on these companies

The wifi function is pretty handy. Mines now set up to automatically upload all the new photos to my NAS with just a few clicks on the camera. The range is dire though, has to be very near the router.
I have to say, the wifi function on mine is actually really handy and I use it loads. Most of my 'snaps' with it are just going straight on Facebook or being sent to friends so I just send whatever I take to my iphone or ipad in a few seconds.
