5Ds should be great for focusing, if you can live with 5fps, plenty resolution so a crop gets you no more reach

It looks like the 5Ds will have similar AF to the 1Dx/7D II etc..., and also has the 1.6x crop mode so should be fine for this. But part of me thinks it will be too specialised as a landscape camera, and I'd be better off with a second body (probably a 7D II) for the action stuff.

However, for the money that will cost, all I'd gain is a faster shooting rate (not a big deal for me as 4fps from my 1Ds has been fine), a few more focus points and slightly higher ISO range.

Any thoughts?

I'd wait till the 5D Mk4 comes out later in the year for what you want.

Random bump, picked up my 5DsR yesterday and it'll get it's first real outing in anger in 3 weeks time on our holiday in Hawaii...and a new "pet lens" for the missus to use on the 6D too...

How has it been for you? How was the new pet lens as well?

Not really had time to play with it properly to be honest, wanted it for out honeymoon in Hawaii which starts next Monday and when the chance came up a few weeks ago I jumped at it.

Only pic so far is a random lego shot yesterday evening, first image is ~65% of the originally framed shot, and the second is an actual size 100% crop.

Is there going to be a replacement for the 5d mark III imminently? I need to get a new DSLR and like the all-round ability of the 5d III, but don't want to buy one if a replacement is just around the corner.

How does the S (or R) compare in low light situations?

Apparently a 5DMk4 (or whatever it will be called) is very likely relatively soon.

Nothing official though as far as I have seen.

Suggest search for "Canon rumours 5D mark 4 " (or similar) and see what pops up. Then decide whether waiting sound like a good idea or not. At the moment it is difficult to have any idea on that.

Supposed to be towards the end of the year, 5dmk4, I am assuming with 4k video and a pixel increase but not as many as the 50mp one.

Anyone know of somewhere with 'R's available? It'll be mid-September from WEX apparently.
