Love this thread.

GC, a small question for you: is your third image from the OP a digital photo?? I know from reading other threads you abandoned film some time ago and never looked back but that has a fantastically filmic light quality to it that I honestly have no idea how I'd achieve digitally.

I spent a lot of time as a child around Connel/Benderloch so have a very clear picture of how that sky would have appeared in colour and IME it's rare for b and w photos to suggest colour so strongly. Did you do something 'special' to achieve the look?
Yep... digital. Nikon D800 or RX100 can't remember which. I added a lot of shadow to the sky to bring the clouds out (which I do most of the time, colour or greyscale - same done to the trees above.
thumbup

I like your pics a lot but think that's in the top 5 for me. Looks very dramatic.

Ta smile

You may well know this (living in Glasgow) but If you're ever coming this far north avoid July & August. It has the worst light of the entire year (and is when everyone turns up with a camera). Sun low in the sky brings the hills alive - 3D wise. April, May and October offer the best light IMO. (Or Jan if it's not pissing down).

Agreed. Nowhere near the same league but I snapped this on the iPhone from a safety RIB towards the beginning of the sailing season on Loch Lomond last year, so round about Easter time. Perfect light, stormy on one side of the Loch with sun breaking through the other - just immensely frustrating that I didn't have a better camera and had to just snap on the run whilst braced in the RIB.

Still, at least I got something:

Nice set, all very nicely composed.

Here's a shot of my daughter at a sculpture in Piccadilly.

A couple I took with my RX-100. They were taken on the first day I bought it so was a little unfamiliar as to where to find all the controls and was fumbling around in the dark (ooh er!!) a little to get the desired settings. Was quite pleased with these though as they seemed to capture the atmosphere quite well even though they were taken at a relatively high ISO...

Edit to add the cable hanging down from the roof was a little annoying but I don't have the ability in my PP to get rid of it!

Tattershall Church. Shot in black and white as I wanted to 'feel' the mood, if that makes sense.

Cheers. I'd not thought of that, but I see what you mean - I have the album!
