No, that's Leica. This month. Or was that last month and it's Fuji now? No it is Sony this week. And Zeiss.

But, he does buy the equipment he likes himself. Though changes it more than I change cars.

Not a crazy price and it's also one that will no doubt drop. I'd guess the grey imports will be I guess about £2200, it not a little cheaper.

What I don't see is how Sony can keep the 3 lines going with a camera like this. What will the S come out with after this camera is going to be seen as so effective in low light. I can see a market for the A7Mk2 as it's a less well specced, but cheaper version. I can see the S line being dropped.

Couldn't resist any longer! Reading technical reports and previews was too tempting so I've pre-ordered from WEX today. Hopefully here within the month, at which point I'll have a mint c.3 month old A7 Mark 2 spare, if anyone is interested...

My A7R Mark 2 is due to arrive on Thursday - has anyone received one yet? I can't wait to find out just how good it is.

At the risk of being a bit cheeky, I am now going to sell my A7 Mark 2 - utterly mint and still with warrantied - if anyone is after one at good price. I'm aware of the % cut EBay will levy if I sell there so am willing to offer a very fair price if anyone wants to pm me...

Hi there

Great photos there! Mine arrived on Thursday too, fantastic little camera. I only have the 35mm 2.8 at the moment though, very tempted with the new metabones adaptor to see how my canon glass works with it. How did you find the AF tracking with the aircraft?
Also regarding the Lightroom update, on DPreview I found a thread with a link to the Adobe blog mentioning the update- at the end of this page they have a link to download and manually do the update for windows or MAC, it seems to download the RAWS no problem now-

Brilliant, thanks for that. I'll download the software next.

As for the camera, overall I think it is great. I moved from film around Christmas and sold my Olympus OM2 which had a legendary viewfinder and a beloved Leica R9 which had the best viewfinder I've ever had. So, I'm really fussy about that side of things and have no complaints about the EVF on the Sony. It's fine - bright, clear and easier to judge fine focus manually than the older one I had. I've mostly used my older manual lenses with adaptors (I have the Metabones and a Novoflex amongst others and both are great) and often couldn't decide even fully zoomed in with the focus helper if some things were really in the best focus as I thought the EVF (I find the screens useless in any kind of bright conditions, though haven't tried a shade yet let it down, with insufficient resolution to show the ultimate sharpness.

Happily, the autofocus on the 70-200mm is brilliant in bright conditions - much, much faster and more certain than me and had no problems with the aircraft unless they crossed things like tree tops and pylons/wires which it then snapped to (I just had it on the centred option so didn't play with manual position settings etc.). It did struggle on the garden in mixed bright-shadow conditions when it wanted to pick things I didn't so then I did use the owner position option or manual which were fine.

I've carted SLRs, view cameras and the like around - 30Kg plus backpacks in winter up and down moors, so I'm really pleased it offers such quality and yet is so small and light. Even with my spade like hands I find it easy enough to operate too, though the multiple menu options take a while. The custom settings for the buttons and wheel are good though, I can get ISO, manual focus assist, exposure control etc. at the push of a button which is handy! Overall, i love it.

Hit problems straight away in that Photo launched automatically when it was plugged in to the laptop and seemed to import the pictures, but then the thumbnails appeared in the wrong (wrongly dated) folder and then couldn't be edited, saved or anything.

Lightroom wouldn't accept them at all stating the format was unrecognisable. The dealer couldn't help, except to suggest I update the software - as if I hadn't already though of that - and then put me on to Sony "Customer Service". The irony in that title...

The level of customer 'service' was shocking. The woman on the phone could barely stifle her yawns of disinterest and would not recognise the camera model despite me trying repeatedly, "We sell lots of different cameras, what is the ID reference?" etc. Hopeless. The issue is Camera Raw needs updating to 9.1.1 but Lightroom won't let me, claiming it is up to date. On Saturday they did have 9.1.1 available for Photoshop and so I have uploaded that, but don't want to use PS to import photos. Apple then announced an update to their Raw software which I did - no difference at all!
With respect the issue isn't with Sony, they officially support Capture One Express out of the box and that software was updated with a7RII RAW support nearly a month ago.

Having said that Lightroom / Photoshop CC was updated on Thursday with RAW support for the a7RII, I'm not aware of anyone else having issues, there were plenty of RAW files floating around on Thursday that everyone has been playing around with in LR with no issues.

That's as maybe, but this is the 4th Sony I've had including 2 faulty RX100 iii models and again, their support is lousy - from my experience. Not just the inability to help or a "Sorry, but we don't support x, y z and you need to use/contact..." but a bored sounding disinterest in even getting started, even to the extent of knowing or trying to find out what model it was. Despite my carefully and insistently spelling it out. The woman I spoke to couldn't care less.

That's great to hear, the 70-200 is on my list of things to purchase as well.

Think you might have been a bit unlucky. Sony have gone above and beyond for my issues.

Probably then, maybe just the woman I spoke to and possibly Friday evening near 5.00pm is. To be honest, if she worked for me and I heard a recording of how she dealt with a perfectly polite and civil query she'd be in for re-training. Bored to the point of "f off and leave me alone, I can't be ar5ed to look up which model it is, it's hometime.." in attitude.

I don't think you'd be disappointed - it seems like a really good lens to me. If I manage to sell the older manual lenses I have on EBay I'll add one of the Sony/Zeiss wide angles too.

Think I may well get one. I have the version 2 of the canon 70-200 one at the moment which I love, I'm not sure how good it would be with the metabones on the Sony though. I'll just need a nice 24-70 and a wide angle then smile

It's not bad. I use the Metabones (v3) and it's worked well with my 100L macro and 24-70
