Great photos mate, really sharp. It was a great day out as always when the weather is fine.

I hope you don't mind but here's a few of some of the other aircraft from the Saturday.

Love the A10 Thunderbolt. Great photo and one of my favourite planes. How did you process it?

Thank you mate!

No worries my friend, some great images too!

Yeah it's a great plane. I got to see it fly in and land for Yeovilton Air Day, that was something special.

Lots of clarity and contrast I believe, burned the clouds a little too wink

I made the transition from 550D and 70-300mm to 7D Mark II and 150-600mm this year and my results have sky rocketed!

Go for it!

I last went to RIAT in '96, camped out 3 days and got terribly sunburned behind the knees....

Love an air show, fantastic pics - A10 probably my fav too.

Good to see the Vulcan flying, I'm planning on Airbourne in a couple of weeks ...

els bells they are crystal compared to mine. Just went up from a 350 to a 7D MKI (second hand prices what I can afford). I think it is the lens that attracts my attention now. I am more than happy with the 7D MKI

Just discovered that I am not using the save option correctly was well. Some improvement may be found for me there in post processing.

The 70-300 for one or two on the ground where the object was not moving and it is OK for this.

Got a few in the sky OK but I can see a difference, by eck.

Yeah, you'll notice better results with a better lens, over the body. I just happened to have some cash lying about so I treated myself haha!

They're great shots, lovely and crisp too!

Thanks.

It has been interesting seeing results from the same subject with different lenses straight up like this. Yours are a lot sharper, cleaner and very crisp as are Toasty shots above and been looking at them as well. Under no illusions where mine lie in the comparison.

I have been lurking through a few on Flickr and I can see where the limits of mine are. I did have a sigma (not so cheap at the time) many years ago that was not all that good and it sort of put me off non OEM when compared to the canon 70-300 (non L). Paying more attention to yours I have been mooching around MPB to see what is on the second hand shelf........

I have to agree with SkySailing that lenses make a big difference. I also had a 70-300 and still have the 7D and in the right conditions you can get some really sharp shots (see your Spitfire/Typhoon for example).

I bought the 100-400 a couple of years ago and do recommend it over the 70-300 but whether it's worth the costs is up to you. The nice thing about L lenses is they do hold their value really well so you wouldn't lose much if and when you come to sell, especially if you buy 2nd hand.

Post processing can also make a difference if the image is in focus, for these a bump up in contrast, clarity and exposure and a bit of cropping was all it took.

I have had a quick borrow of an L, 400 prime, but the conditions at the time were non too good but a side by side on the roof vent across the way was an eye opener.

When they got closer to me I can get in for the detail, the Kawasaki or your gunship 1 for example (which I also have but gubnship 1 out of focus so binned), mine is struggling. That I found to be interesting as I have a similar object to compare. Now I need to look at post processing.

Also learning that I have to be ruthless with the images, what to keep and what to throw away, images a lot bigger than my old one.

Being ruthless is key! I used to keep sub par shots and then wonder why it wasn't that good, now I'm extremely strict and only keep the shots I really really like!

In regards to lens, I would recommend the Tamron SP 150-600mm over the Canon 100-400 L. Simply because I have used both. Whilst the 100-400 is an incredible lens and is certainly a great bit of kit to have, the 150-600, in my opinion, is just as sharp and just as good as quick focussing, it's also about £550 cheaper! It also has the bonus of 200mm of extra reach.

Lastly, try this website: http://www.hdewcameras.co.uk

It is the absolute cheapest place to get brand new items. They're completely legit and they're very fast at shipping too!

I paid £950 for my 150-600, then this website offered them for only £659!

A few of mine - not up to the standard of some of the others on this thread for sure! Nevertheless, I was quite pleased with them. Taken on my new EOS70d with a canon 70-300 IS. We there on the Saturday - the skies weren't that great most of the time...

Ha, get thee behind me satan......

Another site added to my list then. Not yet I am afraid. The 7D was second for a reason but I am looking. I fancy I am seeing not a clear picture as I should allowing for lens differences. I did not clock it until I looked at these. I wonder if it is a 7D thing. Using full RAW for shots then PSE13 (standalone). Think I need to play a tad more and of course my monitor might not be set up right though I suspect that is not it.
