Lovely evening last night. I am loving the drone, but it's only downside is its low light performance (bit like my phone camera) brilliant if there is plenty light, but noisy when it is darker. Still...
I assume you tweaked with the Iso and shutter speed?

I haven't got that far with it yet.. is the drone really steady enough for a longer shutter speed?

Dunno which one you're using, but on my phantom 4, it's like it's placed on a ledge it's that steady! Give it a go haha

Nice photos either way!

Hi all. I've been lucky enough to have the university I work for buy a Phantom 4, and have been nominated to learn to fly it, (along with a Parrot AR Drone 2.0). The Parrot has proven to be really easy, but I'm a little nervous of the Phantom, mainly because it was quite expensive and I don't want to bugger it up. So over the next few weeks I hope you guys won't mind if I ask plenty of questions. Fortunately I work next to Wimbledon Common and some sports fields, so ahve plenty of space to get to grips with them.

Ask away.

I got my phantom 4 about four weeks ago and it's one of the easiest things I've ever done. So simply, so easy. I wouldn't worry.

Great, thanks. The wind has just picked up now, so looks like first flight will be tomorrow.

Is it as easy as turning it on and letting it settle down and it's programmed height before trying out the controls?

Turn it on, make sure everything is as it should be (I'm sure you'll have gone over this or will do). On the screen there's a 'take off' button. Press it, it'll automatically take off and hover at 4ft. It will NOT move, until you directly put any command in. Keep it in P mode for now. P mode has gps and will always hover in place unless you tell it to.

I've read, and re-read the proceedure, checked out videos, but at my age I get a bit cynical when something says it's as easy as that. :-) Will report back after first flight.

Well, coming from someone who's had it a month, I can confidently fly it under bridges and use sport mode etc. You'll be fine!

Video I did recently, shows my progress I think! - https://youtu.be/9LGw6X08-Gg

Download Sky Demon Lite, it'll allow you to see if you're in restricted airspace. Wimbledon Common is almost certainly a no no and if you're being paid to fly it by the Uni you'll need an RPAS qualification to stay inside the law.

Thanks for that. I've already asked my boss for RPAS training. It's not just Wimbledon Common, but the whole area of sports grounds and campuses that are owned by the uni.

Not a particularly interesting pic except that from this height, behind the current village known as Torridon (though that's not its name), you can still see clues to the old township of Doire na Furan - which was emptied during the Highland Clearances (1830 - 1850s) by some bd by the name of Colonel McBarnet.

I've been up in North West Scotland for a couple of days, waiting for the wind to die down.

Now it has done, I've managed to fly my phantom a few times - here's a few of my early shots:
