This is a long winded piece of tosh but I thought I'd share as it shows how bad I am and how good the DJI OSMO is.

I actually agree. It's like photography with a normal camera though. Everyone has seen pictures of Central Park, Grand Canyon etc. You need some imagination to make a picture stand out.
I was thinking the exact same thing today though, watching quite a few drone videos. And they were just all very samey. Maybe we're just spoiled by the amount of footage so easily available now.
I was thinking about this having viewed a whole load of pages here. I guess it’s understandable to an extent given the technology is relatively new to the mainstream, but a lot of photos (not just here) seem to literally be ‘look, I got my drone up in the air and took a photo of something nice’. Without being too harsh about it, it does get very boring/samey very quickly. It’s basically the equivalent of ‘I got a new camera, this is a photo of my cat’.I was thinking the exact same thing today though, watching quite a few drone videos. I’m really looking forward to the concept maturing and lots of people taking it a step further, thinking more about the actual fundamentals of ‘good’ photography (it is still conventional photography at the end of the day). There is so much scope to genuinely add a new perspective to what we’re used to seeing on the ground.
All of the above is a massive positive for somebody who does innovate, there are relatively few people taking drone photos so anyone who does manage to stand out could really carve a niche for themselves at this early stage.

The big thing is that most of the drone video you see is pretty much unedited. Imagine a photographer making you go through the whole reel just to show you how they got to the photo they wanted to take. Then there is the temptation to do pan/gimbal shots that have no focal point, so you can 'take it all in'.I’m really looking forward to the concept maturing and lots of people taking it a step further, thinking more about the actual fundamentals of ‘good’ photography (it is still conventional photography at the end of the day). I do think that drone shots/videos can tell you more than many on the ground pictures would - it's not necessarily high art, but delivers a sense of a place that conveys more information. If your criteria is that one artistic photo then you're going to be disappointed, but they have a place.
Then, as usual, the thing that marks out something special is being in the right place at the right time, with your finger on the button. My cousin produces better videos with a very old generation drone simply by being up a mountain at sunrise when the rest of us are asleep.
