Looks like the battery needs a charge cycle according to what I have been reading.

How do you intend to do this? I've read several ways, but don't know the best. Ta.
My Phantom 2 battery is different to the Phantom 3, however I believe the issue is to do with the cells needing calibrated after 20 cycles so the "smart" tech has a base line to monitor from properly.

So I intend to fly to around 20%, land and leave the drone on (with motors off, props removed) and run the battery slowly down to 8%. After a while I'll charge it fully.

I plan to do this on Sunday so I'll post my findings.
The Inspire tells me to take the batteries down to 5% to deep cycle them. I just fly as normal and hover for the last 10% until it lands.

Good tip, though I'd say the Inspire and the Phantom 3 for that matter, have a far superior power management system than my 1st gen Phantom 2. It feels very dated in comparison.

Really after a better camera and ND filter setup though the gopro is giving good results for what it is.

ETA: Apparently that's our part of the lake so I might just take up fishing instead.

I read on a forum the other day that the X3 camera on the inspire doesn't produce as good results as a GoPro. Is this right? The results look good to me!

I'd say the Gopro 4 is better but only because of cineform and post production. You need a Solo drone to use it remotely.

X3 has lenticular lens so no post fish eye correction, the camera is also centered, works from the app right to the drone and is ready to go with ND filters.

Out of the box the X3 is far simpler and you really need to be a serious post production pixel peeper to notice the difference.

All my stuff is currently guess work before I send the thing up though I do have a video link.

Fair enough

What about the X5 - I assume this is better than the X3/GoPro?

Bigger sensor yes.

Micro 4/3 sensor and ability to use quality glass. X5 raw out now to. X5 is IMO overpriced and the X5 Raw is exceptionally over priced.

Still bugs to be ironed out from some of the RAW footage I've seen.

I fancy an Inspire (bought one through eBay but turned out to be a con) however am unsure about whether to go with the X3 or X5.

Can buy X3 for just under £1,400 and X5 for just under £2,200...

I was all good to go to buy the Inspire with X5 camera, however found this comparison video showing some footage side by side and in both examples the X3 looks better than the X5. Confused!

https://youtu.be/S2i0TjTKjAc?t=5m31s

ETA: And now I've just seen this which makes it even more confusing!

https://vimeo.com/155598701

Am I correct in thinking that the required post production (i.e. out of the camera) on the X5 is greater but when you do the post production it produces a better image?

What exactly would be required?

The X3 will sharpen and saturate your video out of the box for the consumer. There is Dlog (and I've seen some great footage) but the X5 with it's larger sensor gives 13 stops of DR. However, the X5 consumer settings (to me) don't look that great but I've seen some really great post production footage and the stills are very good in comparison.

The idea is to record the video as flat as possible (looks crap) to retain as much information and dynamic range as possible, then correct in post.

However this is a complicated, processor intensive, time consuming process and the files are huge. Hence why people like using the X3 and Gopros.

Just look at some of the pics and video Steve is getting with his Phantom 3. It's mostly about creativity and understanding than kit.

Here is some 2k gopro 3 footage of mine in my first real attempt at grading https://vimeo.com/162419496

It sounds like the X3 is probably going to be the better product out of those two for me to buy - I don't mind putting some time/effort into the PP however if it really does take forever I just won't bother. Being able to take the SD card out of the camera and whack it in the TV/PC and it immediately look great is a big plus for me (impatient and all that!!). Having said all that, I come back to the Phantom 4 - I'm terrible at making decisions hehe

Anyway, I have just purchased the DJI OSMO which has the X3 camera - just waiting for it to arrive.

You are right of course. Mind you, I used to live in Saaf Arra! (That's how we pronounced it)

Escaped.

Today, people up the road wanted a pic of their rather nice house (Def not Saaf Arra):
