Would the CAA be supplying the add on hardware? If not I can't see many people complying.
Tbh for hobbyist drones the fact that people can buy them so cheap online (or sub £40
in Lidl for instance) means the majority I seen flying in the park won't have gone through all the motions to get registered, especially after the Gatwick incident.
DJI are quite good as they have the geo fencing and height limits but the cheaper drones don't have anything.
Europe have some weird rules, I was ordered by the Italian Police to keep the drone under building height as some paragliders were in the air and they don't have to follow any rules/flight path but then they also told me it would be confiscated at dusk when the sun goes down which I thought was bs but I looked it up and it's true.

Edit: ignore that, I clicked on the photo and looked at it in more detail and can see it was at sunrise/sunset.

Nordboy - yes you can bypass it if you want to but if you get caught bypassing the settings, rest assured you will be in BIG trouble.
But just remember, it's 120 mts from the ground you are standing on, so if like GetCarter you live in Northern Scotland and are standing on a mountain, then it's 120 mts from that. This does not include buildings though, so you wouldn't be able to climb up to the top of The Shard say and then fly up to 120mts

As best as i can make out, if you have a Mini3/3Pro or the Mini 4 then it's built in so all they will have to do, is at an update activate it - well for the RID at least.[]Edited by untakenname on Sunday 17th December 09:06[/footnote]
If like me you have a Mini2, then you'll need to get an add on module - they can be as little as £10
With regards to Geofencing, that will be built in to the OS and so when you log in so to speak, if there is an active alert in that area, it wll not let you take off.
That's my understanding of the situation anyway.

- incredible location / land and sea scape
- drone work / videography
- bikers just riding and loving life
- great choice of music

So, as crimbo has arrived, I bagged a DJI mini 3 with the DJI RC remote. Well happy, all charged, had quick 5 mins flight as it's been pissing it down with rain here all day.
Completed the CAA flyer ID and operator ID registrations.
I've bought the 2 yr DJI care refresh package as an extra and will probably get at least one spare battery, maybe two if I can stretch the budget.

Good to know, I'll probably get a spare battery though, then have a look at some accessories such as filters, propeller straps, maybe a rc lanyard. Have a case already so that's a start.then find one or two apps to help start out with places to fly, drone assist? or others?

On the other hand I rarely go flying without using all three batteries (landing with 5 minutes reserve). One thing is, if I haven't flown for a couple of weeks and want to take a quick pic, I find the batteries can be down to 50% charge (not sure why that is, it was the same with my Mini 2)mikef said:

All DJI batteries are designed to start losing charge after 10 days - it's a way to keep them healthy.nordboy said:

Air Assist is also a good one to get. It’s an early warning system for any emergency aircraft that will be coming into your airspace.
I sometimes fly relatively close to a hospital with a helipad and while I can always see my drone, the air ambulance can swoop in and the rotor sound doesn’t always carry well to give me a heads up.
I like to know when the helicopter is in my “home zone” so I have plenty of time to lower it and avoid a potential incident.
