Cool, I just need to get a drone now! I've been waiting to see what GoPro release before making a decision.

Two things.

I used a GoPro Hero 4 Black on my last drone and the results were nowhere near as good as the DJI Phantom 3 Pro (though others seem to disagree, no idea why).

GoPro would have trouble with this due to barrel distortion;

and secondly:

I can't believe this comes from the gopro 'experience this' video for the new drone. Dreadful. It would never make it into any of my vids, let alone a promo for a camera. Dynamic range... what dynamic range?!

Having said all that, I have no idea what price point GoPro will announce.

ETA: Lots of my stills and vids from the DJI here: http://stevecarter.com/random/aerial.htm

I qualified as a UAV pilot today, I just need to sort out my Ops manual and it'll be time to give up driving trucks for a living. thumbup
Congratulations!

What does that entail, as a hot air ballon pilot/ex air traffic controller I have wondered if any of the air law etc exams I have covered would be applicable to drones.
With an aviation background you'd have absolutely no problem with ground school side of it. Most of it if not all you'll have covered before. The flying side is easy as long as you practice flying in Manual mode rather than using gps. Go for it, you know you want to. biggrin
Seconded, but ATTI mode not manual! If they expected everyone to fly manual I don't think many would pass!
ATTI is a DJI term, the chaps who held the course I attended called it manual. As they were all ex forces drone pilots I'm going to bow to their superior knowledge. thumbup
ATTI isn't a DJI term, manual mode or rate mode is full manual which is you flying it without the IMU and compass. If you push forward stick and let go your drone stays in that angle it doesn't go level again unless you pull backwards on the stick and release when level again. Its what's used in FPV flying too.

You should have GPS mode, Attitude mode (the brain keeps the craft's attitude) and manual mode (you are the only thing telling it what
angle it should be at)

ETA I'm not sure what the phantom has but the other DJI controllers all (wookong, naza, A2 all have the three modes)

I'm guessing the Karma is going to be a 'smart' drone - not for professionals, but something you can (literally) throw into the air and it'll follow you and do standard things like orbits when you press a button on your smartphone. GoPro make (high end) consumer products rather than professional grade tools and from what I've seen, that space is all about automatic positioning, computer vision and ease of use. They've called it the Karma as they're getting back at DJI after their split up, so expect something to compete with the Phantom.

They've said it'll work with the current range of GoPros which kinda implies a standard mount more than anything. That said rumours are that the 'Hero 5' will be in the Session form factor and that would potentially work well with a gimbal if it has a convenient plug to connect to the drone...

Awesome pics chaps as always.
Slightly off topic, any of you had experience with Drones Direct? They have a few bundle deals on a P3 Advanced. Thought I would seek the advice of the PH collective before parting with my cash.
Many thanks

No experience myself but, if you're starting from scratch. A cheap one to crash first is the way forward. I've had great service from Heliguy. Sorry, it's a beery night in Gloucester. drink

First time out today with my newly acquired DJI P3 Advanced. It's quite addictive flying these things. I can see I'm going to need to order some more batteries!!
