Afternoon all,
I'm glad to be joining the club, I've just ordered a Phantom 3 Standard. Can't wait for it to arrive! I've bought it primarily for photography.
I am planning on taking it abroad with me, what would people recommend for transporting it? Hard shell case, soft case backpack?
Does anyone know how well it will work abroad without a data connection? I presume the maps will not work? Or should I just stump up the money and pay for some data? Is there a clever way to download maps prior to say leaving the hotel, then using it for flying?

It should work ok. Without an internet connection on your tablet/phone, the map window will show the drones flight path but without any background map/satellite detail. I presume that's because the positional data is coming from the GPS on board the Phantom. I rarely use the map feature for mine in that respect. Happy flying, and you might want to investigate LiPo battery transport rules for your airline before getting to the airport.

Lipo bags are a must no matter where you are. Don't leave home without them.I'm glad to be joining the club, I've just ordered a Phantom 3 Standard. Can't wait for it to arrive! I've bought it primarily for photography.

Pretty pleased so far - this is at midday on a hazy Sunday, so not the best lighting.

The learning curve is interesting. You can get it in the air without reading anything more than how to turn it on. Then you want to do more and it's a mass of controls and instructions and hints from the forums. It's a bit of a pity I've got to go into work tomorrow

First attempt with my Phantom today, quite impressed, although the pictures look a bit grainy. I'll have a dig into the settings.
I seemed to be having quite a few 'Compass Errors' which made the controller default into Attitude mode. Any ideas?

I assume you calibrated the compass? You really need to do this when you get it out of the box as it's been thrown about in transport. If you didn't - youtube: calibrate compass DJI phantom 3, and you'll get a step by step.
ETA - keep the craft out of the way of magnets, lots of metal or electrical magnetic fields when powered up. They will make life harder for you.
