Try restarting your browser, or going 720p. My MacBook struggles with 1080p
Nope, I think that it must just be the frame rate. 24fps?

Shot and edited in 24p.

I normally shoot in 25 but accidentally left it from another project I'm working on, oops!

These directional antennas arrived today from FPVLR.com and I tried just fitting one of them to see the effect. Did a long range flight which was limited by controller signal. Video was still good at this distance with 5 bars. Normally it's the video that cuts out 1st. Have fitted the other antenna now, but it's raining slightly so no chance to test. In theory the battery is now the limitation on range.

If you're flying your drone in the Highlands over the next couple of weeks download Skydemon light to keep yourselves legal. There are NOTAMs in force for most areas until 16 Sept. West costal areas look to be ok but just inland airspace is restricted.

And look out for the GPS jamming testing warnings!

I'm thinking about adding a drone to my gear, I've been doing some shots of buildings recently for an architect that's a friend of my wifes and think some higher elevation views and fly overs would really help on the less urban ones.

Obviously this is about as good an excuse as I'm likely to get for a new toy serious inspection tool.

Would the DJI Phantom 4 be a good platform for this? I've been looking for a while and they seem to review better than most of the competition.
Another option would be a used Inspire 1, but I'm not sure of the benefits it would give. Is it mainly stability or is there more to it?

I might do a CAA course if this becomes a more regular thing, I work in offshore inspection so could put it (and the drone) through the books.

For professional work the Inspire is a better choice. As for ANYTHING that pays,in any way, you need have the relevant qualifications before you operate. For offshore work I'm not sure either one would be up to the job apart from the calmest of days. Aerialtronics is a company that specialises in high powered inspection drones but the prices will make your eyes water if you're considering using DJI. biggrin

I'm aware of the need for qualifications, but intend to learn to fly the thing before charging anyone anything.
At the moment this is just an idea that might turn into something more.

The inspection drones are another thing altogether. I'm currently not on the tools but may be taking a step down due to the industry downturn, in that case I might do the drone qualification so I can be more employable.
They're becoming more popular onshore for inspection duties but I've never seen one offshore yet, rope access is still the way here!

The DJI or similar is simply for taking nice pictures/video as a hobby that may earn money later on.

I'm a big fan of the Yuneec series. Their hex platforms are very stable, and with RealSense, they have very smart object avoidance which is useful for close-up work. They've just announced a thermal camera too, so you can do fun things with that if you're in that area of inspection.

Go for it, I started with a £40 Syma and jumped straight to an inspire. All I have to do now is gain my PfCO and I'll be up and running. Good Luck.
