Well I can muster a couple. One is definitely safe, but hopefully the second is innocent enough not to offend the moderators.

At worst, the rest of my top 5 only show boobies, but I have no wish to offend anyone so will opt not to post them.
Thanks - appreciated smile

Like a lot of others time with the camera has been somewhat limited, one of these is a phone image. Lets see what 2016 brings!

Some truly phenomenal photos so far, just having an eye for the picture is something else.

With the astro shots on page 1 are they single shots or layered? From how I understand astro so far the star trail ones are loads of images stacked, but the milkyway ones don't seem to be.

Also, what light source on the camera do you normally use for astro?

thanks

Alex

Tony my astro stuff tends to be panoramics, multiple frames stitched, and there is no light source on the camera. Its all natural starlight

Thanks Rob,

I meant which white balance/source? Auto, sun, cloudy etc

Cheers

What an incredibly inspirational thread, a few highlights for me..

Rob, as always your astro stuff is out of this world (terrible pun) but that first image is truly sublime.

DD absolutely love that Venice shot, some great sunset shots as well!

2slo your images of the man in the mist packs so much punch.

André particularly like your second shot.

Always a sucker for a dog shot, Martin, the bridge shot is epic though.

Every one of those landscape shots is breathtaking, Paul!

GF, La Ferrari, say no more..

Chris that Kingfisher shot is beautiful.

Excellent shot of the owl in the rain, Jimmy.

MX-5 is one of my favourite shots of yours Graham, producing so properly polished car stuff mate.

Nessie your bike stuff is just so cool!

Been a bit of an up and down 2015 really, had so much in the pipeline which has been pushed back to this year etc.

Thanks Lloyd - loved your Scorpion shoot. You deserve more air/air work than a lot of the regulars on the circuit these days.

Some of mine, definitely not up to the general standard here though! (Not posting any of my attempts to get the galactic code / milky way!)

I usually go with whatever white balance I find works for the image, technically it should be quite warm (our eyes dont see it tho) but it hardly ever looks good like that.

Coming from a man of you talent I consider that to be a real compliment, Thank You.

How did you achieve your shots of the GC though? I find it difficult in the UK, partly due to GC visibility, partly because I can only use a max of iso 800 without introducing a noise whitewash in a 40sec exposure (10mm on crop sensor) which means a max Av of 4.5 IIRC.

I've bought a Canon EOS M with the sole intention of bettering my astro landscapes - As it's not an SLR and I'm sure you know this, just clarifying for other readers, you can get a faster wide angle lens for not a lot of money.

So I'm now working with 12mm F2 but all that seems to have achieved is more light pollution. I will admit though, I could choose better shoot locations, being 20 miles from the coast.

I'm guessing, given that the milky way is curved , that you're using some sort of image stack? But then, the foreground mountains would be affected as there's no star trails...

Re white balance, I have to admit, I did use manual WB for the pic referenced and I have been questioned about it. Sometimes (IMO) wrong can be right.

Thanks mate, it's a case of old boys ruling the roost as I'm sure you know. Although a lot of it seems to have shifted to those who are simply willing to fork out stupid money for the oppurtunities now.

I feel like the dorky kid at the back of the class with some of the shots on here!. I've tried to be as varied as possible with my subjects this year, and to shoot more in film. Anyway, here goes...

Yeah mate, one of the main reasons I jumped ship to shoot cars - had enough of civvies walking on to the pan in their flight gear career-laughing with the boss while I was under the jet doing bloody tech jobs!

Very few pics from me this year, 788 hours volunteered on our rescue boat put paid to that for most of the year.

Still, got out on a few little expeditions:

1. Glen Coe, an area very close to my heart and I always try and make a few trips up there during the year.
