Its that time of year again! Always love these threads, and it makes a nice little history of your photography

5 only mind!

(previous "Your Top 5 From..." threads: 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010)

Quite a quiet year overall for me but here is my top 5.

An Easter trip to catlins was my most productive break. Nugget point lighthouse now a postcard.

Probably not the most popular of mine but I love the feel, it was proper heaving down shooting this.

And Wharariki at sunrise, just feels like the wildest most remote place in NZ

Overall not much astro this year and not much at all , but a few keepers all the same..

Great shots, Rob, although I'd hoped for a more diverse selection of subject matter.
smile

I shan't bore you with mine. (There's only likely to be a cat, a blurred spider and an overexposed sunset.) hehe

I shoot landscapes. Its what I enjoy most. Plenty of other contributors add other stuff.
Its well worth joining in as a good record of what you are shooting and how you are improving (or not..)

In order taken this year...starting off with a very early start to the morning in mid January over in Sunnyvale so that I could arrive at Yosemite early enough to shoot the sunrise over the valley floor. It really seemed like it was going to be a bust until the sky went on fire for about 7 or 8 minutes then returned to a very normal winter sky once again.

Yosemite Trip - Jan 2015 - 23 by Barry O'Neil, on Flickr

After Yosemite the cameras were pretty much left at home until late May when we spent a week in Bavaria (after living in Germany for 8 years it kind of made sense that we finally do a holiday here). I had visited Lake Sylvenstein once before back in 2010 during a very cold winter where the whole surface of the green water was frozen solid, with me promising to come back and shoot it when it wasn't frozen at some stage.

During the same trip to Bavaria we took a wander over to the old Olympic stadium in Munich where I stumbled upon this view of the tower through one of the roofs of the stadium.

The cameras then went back into hiding until my new 5DSr arrived just in time for our honeymoon trip to Hawaii in August and September. First up was a view looking down the devastated valley of Haleakala Volcano on Maui.

Then the final of my favourite shots from this year came a week or so later while on a helicopter flight over the top of the Pu'u O'o rupture on Big Island, where a lava river had broke through the crater wall earlier in the week giving way to awesome views of the lava river flowing down the flanks of the crater.

I had to try hard to ignore 15-20 other sunrise photos from Hawaii and other places I travelled to with work during 2015 for this top 5 biggrin

Hmm - well somebody has got to follow Rob and Baz, might as well be me! hehe Great work gents bow

In chronological order.

1. Was in Venice earlier this year and wow what a place - photography heaven. Could have chosen all 5 from that trip but here's my favorite.

2. Another of my favorite places - Torridon smile. Had a lovely walk with Mrs DD and this was just a snap really but happy memories and what a place cloud9

Beinn Eighe from Loch Coulin (2) by Mike Smith, on Flickr

3. Bit of a fluke this one - right place at the right time. No filters, tripod etc so was balancing the camera on a wall and the sunset went mad for 10 minutes, great fun smile

Forth Bridges (Explored) by Mike Smith, on Flickr

4. A guy I follow who is one of the best Edinburgh togs got a similar shot to this and I'd always wanted to catch it myself - need sunset to coincide with high tide at the right time of year so not that easy!

Newhaven (Explored) by Mike Smith, on Flickr

5. Couldn't leave this one out - I was having dinner when the sunset went mad and was so fed up to have missed it but even nearly an hour later it was still amazing.

I only got my first decent camera in January so its been a year of learning, with some classic mistakes along with some half-decent work....anyway, here are my 2015 top 5

One of the reasons I wanted to get a decent DSLR was to try and improve my motorsports photography, and having a camera that can cope with focusing on fast moving subjects and the ability to choose the lens to suit has led to getting some good shots..

Apex by jon bawden, on Flickr

Another plus of getting the Pentax K3 that I bought was having access to loads of fantastic old manual focus lenses from ebay, etc - with the image stabilisation built into the body, you can use some of these older lenses to great effect..

Edison bulb by jon bawden, on Flickr

Finally managed to get a half-decent 'bird' pic...

storm Gull by jon bawden, on Flickr

South Devon holds a special place in my heart as my family came from this area and I have fond memories of holidays
there as a kid. To be able to capture moments like this of favourite locations is great...

Shaldon beach light by jon bawden, on Flickr

Tied in with getting to grips with a DSLR and shooting in RAW was the ability to process images in PS - after a rocky start I think I am starting to understand how to use layers and other 'tools' to help improve and also change how an image looks...

Thats all mine, I look forward to everyone's photos in 2016 as they are a great source of inspiration.

Regards - Tb

As always, a very high standard on here and a diverse range of subject matter, good to see what others are doing.

I've hardly posted on PH during 2015, but I have been out with my camera as often as possible. I've had a good year and made some progress. So here are 5 images I've produced over the last 12 months which I like.

I still take bird photographs:

But recently I've found myself liking B&W more and more:

In fact I'm enjoying B&W so much,I could be tempted by a dedicated B&W camera (Leica monochrom). Something to consider for 2016. Happy new year everyone smile

I'd like to include mine, but as they mostly contain women in a state of undress and would have to be censored with big black bars across strategic points, it kind of defeats the object.

Hmm - I'm sure if it was done in an artistic way it would be fine with the mods and I for one am always interested to see boobies your contribution smile

Photography is a funny old thing isnt it. Its just a pic of a bird. Theres so many average or bad ones when someone nails it like that it really stands out, hits all my points that make a good photograph ( comp, light, timing, creativity).
