Photograph storage
Discussion
I currently store my photographs in Aperture (on a Mac) backed up to two hard disc drives. Well, I did. Apple have ceased to support Aperture, so all of my photographs (bar those on the hard disc drives) transferred to 'Photos' on my Mac. I'm not keen on this, and I'd like to find some new software in which to store, sort and adjust images.
I'm not keen on uploading my photographs (there are about 7,000) to 'the Cloud' and would prefer to keep them on my computer.
Has anyone got any suggestions as to some good software to use for storage, sorting and adjustment please? Thanks in advance for your help.

Photo storage is such a big issue but I think you may be confusing storage v cataloguing? Most of the programmes allow you to view and edit your photos and will arrange some sort of file system so that they (the programmes) can retrieve them for you to view in a logical way. Ultimately that means that somewhere your pictures (jpeg, gif, tiff or whatever format) are stored on your disc in the same way as any other document - finding them individually is just a question of knowing the filing system architecture.
There are lots of other programmes that will do that for you - Picasa is quite popular but you might prefer one of the Adobe products like Lightroom or even use Bridge in Photoshop - and here is a link to lots of others!! However, as you have found, these programmes may not be supported indefinitely and you will have to face the same problem again. I have got round this by loading all my pictures into a subject orientated filing system and then importing as necessary into my image viewer/editor (which in my case is Lightroom). It also means I can use different photo viewers easily for the same image - it is simply a matter of labelling each picture in a way that lets you find it. Hope that helps

Why not stay with Aperture? I have.
I start a new Library each year. I have two portable HDDs connected to my Airport by USB running Time Machine.
On a partition I keep all of the previous years photos - so I have two copies. This years photos get backed up with my normal TM backup. on a backup partition.
To access old years you just access the new library over the network.
