Your 2016 top 5
Discussion
There have been some amazing photos on the site this past 12 months, always inspiring and making me think how I can
improve my photography...anyway, here are my top 5 from 2016. A real mixed bag of subjects but this year has been about learning to get the best from different settings..

Been somewhat of a quiet year on the photo front for me this year, with our move to Oregon at the start of Jan and the ever-increasing workload at the "paying" job, think the number of times the 5DSr got dusted off for a trip was <10 times max. I did get back to playing ice hockey though, a trade I was willing to take...anyway, in no particular order, my top 5 from 2016.
1) A trip to Crater Lake in May

2) Seattle in July (with Mount Rainier looking other-worldly on the horizon)

3) Diablo Lake in the North Cascade Mountains in July
2016-07-02 - North Cascades Trip-14 by Barry O'Neil, on Flickr
4) Sunset on Maui for our wedding anniversary
Thanks Maui for our 2nd anniversary sunset tonight by Barry O'Neil, on Flickr
5) Watching sunrise from the summit of Haleakala Volcano, high above the clouds

To sum up, we're now living in one of natures playgrounds and I can only assume it's getting so normal to drive around the dramatic scenery, mountains etc that the novelty of everything which surrounds us has worn off. We really need to get out and about more in 2017, as the Pacific North West has so many jewels to visit.

It's great to see the quality and variety in these 'best of' threads - Some of the landscapers here are very talented indeed!
Here are 5 from me -
Mablethorpe Sand Racing. I took plenty of regular action shots during this outing, but standing behind the start line seemed to work well (apart from getting covered in sand... )
Street Dancer, Dublin. I've tried this one the right way up, but I prefer it this way, just to mess with your head
In Murano.
Somerset House Stairway.
Happy Lab

Hard to pick 5.... of course most others will look at them and wonder what the hell I am thinking but I like them.
This year I binned all my ILC stuff and bought a Sony RX100 M4. Its been a good move because you can have the thing on you at all times and just whip it out. It can take some really nice looking photos; great sharpness, low noise and a surprising amount of dynamic range in the RAW files.
Heres some that I thought turned out nice:
London skyline peeking over the DLR? from the balcony of an Air BnB right next to the 2012 Olympic Park.

Got a load from HK that I liked, I think that has been my best trip ever photography wise. So much fun to use the RX100 on the street.
Bladerunner skyline:

The scene at Mong Kok night markets:

Got a nice set of B&Ws from a trip to Poland. This one stands out for me:

And finally, this handsome chap. We only had him 4 weeks before we had to put him down with late stage liver failure and likely FIP infection (incurable) Glad I captured this one of him looking majestic during one of the few times he decided to mobile in his last week.
