Hi All,

I have been tasked with buying the mother-in-law a camera.

I have been her tech support for a long time now and want to make my life as easy as possible.

To say she is tech illiterate is an understatement, so it will have to be the easiest point and shoot available.

I would also like either a camera that has wifi built in or a wifi sd card that will automatically (or at least easily) upload images to her new laptop. I have had a look at the coolpix w100 and fuji xp90 as she will probably drop it at some point, but I don't know how easy it is to connect to a laptop (the blurb only mentions tablets or phones).
Any suggestions

Many thanks

It might be easier to get one that has an SD card, take it out and plug it into the laptop's card reader. Quick and pretty much foolproof.

Yep, much easier than farting about with extra complexity than can go wrong. If she can't work a camera she won't be up to solving network/software issues.

Suggest you discuss it with her before jumping in.

Totally agree with this, it's so easy to just take the card out of the camera and put it in the SD card slot in the laptop - just don't buy her a newer MacBook because it might not have an SD card slot!

EDITED to add --- Just be careful when buying SD cards, there are so many fake ones on sale from the likes of fleabay, and for what they cost it's just not worth the hassle, just pop down to your local PC World and buy one in-store, 32GB class 10 and you are well sorted for photos and video - just make sure the camera can read and write to it which I think most modern cameras can!

Macbook, don't make me laugh. She can hardly drive a phone. Come to think of it she can't really drive.

I got her a cheap notebook, It has wifi, and a couple of usb ports but that is about it. And the only reason she is getting that is so she can skype her son in austrailia and go on to 1 or two web sites. End of. But her siblings decided that she should have a camera and asked me to get it (being closest). so I just wanted something easy.

I remember seeing the Eye-fi cards. And I was sure that they mentioned that they can automatically upload photos to social media or your HD. But that was some time ago and i wanted to know how things have progressed.

Thanks for the replies and I might need that six shooter as her next present.

Frankly I'd forget it and buy something else that she will (a) like (b) use or eat.

It would be like someone buying me an iPhone7. I don't have a smartphone because I don't want one; if I was given one it would stay switched off in a drawer.
