Recommend a reasonably priced tripod
Discussion
Hi all,
Could someone recommend me a reasonably priced (<£80?) tripod for Travel and Night time photography?
Perhaps this? It might be a little small though?

"If using entry level DSLRs with the Compact Light, only standard kit lenses is recommended."
Try and get one with a hook underneath, so you can hang something heavy to make it more sturdy.
It's more than you mentioned and I'm not sure if it's any good or not but Wex have a half price offer on a carbon fibre tripod at the moment. Normally £199 but with a code (on
homepage) reduced to £99.

The critical factor might be length when folded - do you have a figure in mind? Or max weight perhaps? - in which case CF is your friend.
Regardless, a decent tripod will last you decades so don't skimp on the price of a few lunches to get a good one.
I will need to check what I can fit in my backpack/hand luggage when I get home, I imagine something around 40cm? Regardless, a decent tripod will last you decades so don't skimp on the price of a few lunches to get a good one.
That CF one at Wex looks good although I can't find anything about it on the internet and there are no reviews and the specifications are confused as they say:
Leg material: aluminium
The Redsnapper ones look great too but possibly slightly too long at 46cm? I'll have to check.
If you're anything like me the initial budget will never be kept to. Completely ignoring your £80 budget, I can highly recommend the Manfrotto Befree range (@£130ish).

I have a Manfrotto like the one in your link as it is nice and light to carry around all day on backpack and it does fit easily in carry-on hand luggage if needed. At times the ball head can be a little fiddly to position. I have had no issues so far using it with a Canon 7D with a 17-50mm, I have even used it briefly with a 70-200mm (at relatively horizontal angles) using the collar mount and it still seems relatively stable as the weight is balanced either side of the head. It would struggle without a collar mount. Being made from metal, it gets very, cold if you use it in winter and are carrying it for any length of time with the camera already attached. As a travel tripod I have been very pleased with it. The only thing I would have liked would have been a changeable head.

I like the Red Snapper ones but the smallest one doesn't fold up enough.
This folds up enough and includes head in the fold up height.
Argh. Budget...
Thanks for pointing it out though...
Velbon are really good on a budget. Calumet too, will be similar to Red Snapper I imagine in that its their own brand.
I'd strongly recommend browsing used sale ads though. There's a Facebook group I use that's just a collection of photography equipment for sale in my local area and it's been great for buying and selling. All photography enthusiasts and I've not come across any dodgy deals like I see on Gumtree. I'm sure there will be something similar near you?
