Haven't bought any filters for years, but on Sunday I drove two hours to Duisburg to take a shot of a Stolperstein on a rainy overcast day for a cousin. Tried brolly shading, low flash from the side, filling the f-ing text engraving with water, all to no avail and ended up with a usable but unsatisfactory shot. Who makes the best c-pols nowadays for 77/79mm dias?

Or should I go with a system type thingie?

What's a CP doing to do on a rainy overcast day except make it darker?

I bought a 77mm Hoya for a trip to Canada - about £55 IIRC - and left it somewhere over there, bugger.

Hoya Fusion Antistatic. -

Hoya make quite a few, but I read an interesting article that compared loads of circ polarisers. - from expensive to cheap. And the Hoya Fusion came top. It just doesn't introduce any odd colour tint, its very neutral. After using it a lot, I have to agree.

Well check it out, polar filters are also useful in overcast conditions. Polarisation can be caused by various factors and water reflection is one of them.

Admittedly I haven't experimented with photographing cars in the rain. It sounds frightful smile

I have a B&W which works well.

They do an ultra thin one for wider angle lenses and potential stacking.

Mine was from a previous owner via eBay and cost about half the recommended retail price. Rarely if ever used before I purchased it I would think. Like many I'm not exactly a heavy user of it myself. Useful to have though.

Marumi

Lenstip grouptest from quite a few years ago sold me on one, DHG Super, not sure what the range is now. Seems to be up with BW etc. still on their 2015 test, you can probably find a Marumi cheaper. I notice the Hoya Antistatic won the test.

In the end I bought a Formatt-Hitech system as they have a promotion and I could always use alternative filter(s) in the system later if required.

For anyone who might be interested here are the promotion details.

"There is also a 20% discount code currently available when ordering via our website, this expires on 31st March, code is FHTPS2017."
