More panning, slower shutter speed.

As a general rule for track stuff a 1/160 shutter works for me, then this can be decreased if the cars are slower and there is still not enough movement.

Depends on lighting and how close you are

These were taken 1/320th

but as Phil S says - 1/160th is usually fine.

Other tips are to get "level" with the car if you can rather than looking down, as that way you'll have to move more to keep up with the car.

Practice practice practice

Some of the best panning shots are taken at 1/30th and 1/60th to give the streaky background. I can't show you as mine are all on slide film. (Remember slide film?)

I think these were at 1/60th, although they could have been a 1/125th (haven't gone digital yet either!)

1/160th to 1/250 should give you a sense of motion eg blurred background and blurred wheels, the slower the shutter speed the harder it is to get the car sharp as well, here are a couple of panned shots

This first shot was taken at 1/60th

and this one was taken at 1/160th

Has the navigator nodded off? Typical Skoda driver! He's wearing a hat isn't he?

The celebrity navigator is non other than Jon Desborough and yes he may have nodded off because they aren't actually driving down the smooth bit of track but over a double ditch
