Hmm.

I'm trying to copy a DVD using Clone DVD. This can compress a film that's more than 4.7GB to fit on one DVD.

Having only one DVD drive/writer, I have to make a hard drive mirror first. So I put the original DVD in the drive and open Clone DVD. It tells me that the programme, not split, is 6.39Gb. It also says I have 55Gb available and need 12.79Gb to proceed. However, when I click on 'Copy now' it just says 'Not enough space available on the target folder'.

The target folder is called 'DVD Mirror' and is just an empty folder, into which theoretically I should be able to get 55Gb.

I have Nero, which I stumble about in sometimes, but don't think that can compress.

What's going on please?

Check that your Drive is formatted NTFS, not FAT32.
FAT32 has a maximum file size of 4GB and Windows unhelpfully comes up telling you that you don't have enough space, when clearly you do...

drop to a command prompt and type "CONVERT /?" and follow the instructions...

Yep, it is...
OK, I'll try ShrinkDVD instead
Thanks all!

Damn - I've clicked everything and can't find a download link; just going round in fecking circles. What's the male equivalent of a blonde moment?

If someone can post a link that goes straight to a download...
