Dad and I stopped at a small waterfall in the North York Moors, it's not marked on any maps, and I'm not entirely sure I could make my way back. It was called Wainthrope falls incidently.

Last one seems a good candidate for the b/w treatment:

hmm, the water looks much better in B/W, but I can't help feeling something is missing - not quite sure what mind.

Colour
Without colour, the eye sees shape and texture more clearly. It doesn't work for many shots but IMHO yours has enough shape, texture, interest and composition to stand alone if needs be. I also think b/w shots can lend themselves better to framing and hanging on the wall - they don't fight with the surroundings so much.

Obviously too late now, but if you opened the shutter a bit longer it would blur the water and give a bit more movement in the shot.

Edit - like this (bad) one I took...

I like number 3 the best, a lovely shot.

IMO with the other two the foreground is not quite interesting enough to hold the viewers' eye. Filling the foreground is a great technique but you often need somehting quite dramatic to fill it.

FunkyNige I tried that, but I started to over-expose everything - I can only get to f8 or so.

I like three the best two, the coulours and the still and falling water are great.

I took this one last week, not *strictly* a waterfall as its a runoff wier

This one was on the moors above rochdale, the problem is the sky is very bright, any idea how i can reduce the intensity? it should be blue. if i reduce the exposure the waterfall will get too dark.

on a canon A70

I'm not buying any camera more equipment than my current camera as I plan to upgrade to dSLR sometime this year.

Ah sorry, I just assumed you were using an SLR already.

If you email me the original (still with a blue sky) I will have a play and then you you know how I get on.

lake,
the problem is the sky should be blue but is very very bright white insterad, almost looks as though its been added in after with the lines around the edge of the bright area. I saw a topic earlier suggesting two images merged, one exposed for sky and the other the subject, unfortunately i dont have one exposed for sky, they're all white!

at least i know now though

thanks for the offer though.

LF,

you could always replace the sky with one from another picture. Just had a quick play, not very well done but gives an idea.

lake,
thats the idea i was talking about, although the tip was to take the same image twice exposed for subject and sky, not a bad effor though mate, certainly better than it was!

cheers
