I like no. 2, but would have left out the top of the grey fence.
Thanks Trackdemon, Limited to my 18-55 for wide angles and there is no clear view of both structures. I think it would have been best to look down more from a higher point rather than straining myself at the gates.
Okay.... here goes....
First shot ever with the D70..and I don't have photoshop. Cringe!
Yes, I have cropped it, due to too much shadow. But hey, I had to climb in an ancient shed for this, full of spiders (big yuk) and take a photo before the floorboards collapsed! For an arachnophobe, you don't realise how scary this was!!!!
Do I need photoshop too?!

No! In fact it could be argued that for a photo comp it should be banned! After all, are we judging our photo skills or our PhotoShop skills?
That said, we're just about making nice images here. I think if we're up front about which tools we've used we have a level playing field. Massively worked on or straight out of the camera. They all have there place.
Here's a picture of a Volvo.
Straight out of the camera!
All I've done is re-size it.
It probably shows.
Darned subject wouldn't stay still.
Now this next one is edited - several ways - and then a very erratic filter called Metal applied. For fun just to see if there was anything that could be used. The original had the catch fencing in annoyingly sharp relief.
(With the metal and the shape of the fence wires I almost put this in for last month - shining metal, shining on diamond mini(sort of Mini after 46 or so years) and the racing was pretty crazy ... but I though better of it.)
The filter has the interesting effect of leaving the netting obvious against the sky but virtually eliminating it at track level.
A curiosity.
Posted here more to find out how the photobucket compression and PH re-sizing might affect it.
Edit. Not too bad - it has lost some of the detail - the number plates and front grilles are not as clear as they are on the original.

Something seems to have reduced it to about 10 colours as well
'Expanded' Rolf Harris mode.
In fact it is a 'special' in-camera digital filter called 'Posterize'. There is also one that gives a 'slim' or 'wide' effect. I think that one might be quite useful in the summer if I get near a beach.

Leave out the structure in the background too and look again.

Yup, you got it: crop the second cylinder as well as the fence (and maybe the bit of sky above the first cylinder too) and look again.
