No probs LongQ, I don't mind looking silly, which is lucky since I often do!
That makes two of us then.

Joust I think it's the symmetry in the first one that makes it work so well when compared to the others of the same subject.
Agreed - though I think the non-symmetry on the left at approximate 'eye' level adds the interest and leads the viewer back into the pic all the time. The very simple strong and defined colours are also important, set off by the slight variations of the lights in the corridors.
By comparison the other shots are nowhere near as clean. I assume the full height sort of dirty brown thing is a lift shaft? It trashes the colour simplicity and splits the shot in the third pic.
In the second pic it has some competition in that the floor and furniture at ground level (I assume it is ground level) detract from the structure and colour harmony of the visual design.
I suspect the architect decided the visual effect could only work in one direction so made the manin impact the one visitors see when they exit the lift.
Just an opinion of course.
Thanks for the comments - I agree with all of them.
The reason I thought it was appropiate for the theme is that without the industrial revolution and the invention of steel reinforced concrete we would never have structures such as that one.
Whilst it's a purely functional building, it's beauty shows that the "industrial world" out there doesn't have to be ugly.

Thought I would try out the Pentax metering on a night shot.
Didn't take too many - there was a very cold north wind blowing.
4 second max exposure at f:2.8 and ISO 200 but this is the sort of result I saw. This is cropped a quite a bit - to remove the roof of the car which acted as the base for my mini tripod.

I therefore interpreted the brief in a literal way.

Couple of points:
It's not a competition it's a learning experience
and:
So interpretation is also a factor.
And all WVM has to do his choose his favourite from the submissions, simple huh..?
Now, to get on with mine.....

Rather quiet this thread over the last week... Are you all snapping away for last minute entries?
I'm not going to be here for a week as I'm off to Toronto. Consequently, as the "final" thread hasn't been created, could someone enter this one into it for me.
Thanks - and see you all in a week!
