there's real wisdom in those eyes (the dog). A really lovely pic.

I am really pleased with that one and it's pretty much down to the tips I've picked up hanging around here for a couple of months

I had an unsuccessful day (or so I thought) taking dog pics at the weekend and ended up with a quite bland collection but taking a second look and having another go with ideas mostly from here I've definitely got a few keepers.

The one above is a very tight crop from this effort:

and with some mono-jiggery-pokery and a bit of a frame, it's a vast improvement

Good crop Hank, I like the result. But with your shiny new TC couldn't you get in closer and save the need to crop?

Next time (And it's not so shiny any more!)

That was with the 18-70, not being as smart as I think I am, I left the big guns at home, but the full range will be taken next time cos I really could have done with the 70-200 on top...

Have you used it for portraits? How do you find it?

Heavy! But it impresses the punters
The HSM AF is excellent; at a wedding disco it was working almost in complete darkness (though that may in part have been due to the SB800/SC29 combo).
