I'm just playing about with resizing images before posting them, so this isn't really a thread about anything other than testing what I've done

Er, this is a tree...

My knees were never that good.

Although I've known many that were that thick.

After mention of knobbly bits, men leaning over women, and knees, I'm almost afraid to post this one... it's Podie out playing

Can someone tell me please why this looks very un-crisp, yet when I enlarge the original it's actually quite clean?

Now the first one really worked for me, the second one just says nothing, it's got no atmosphere....

Is it the JPEG compression? I have frequently found half decent pictures totally ruined by bad compression - my Canon is a shocker for it.

Yup, the novice factor I think - I need so long to think about what I'm doing that a static subject is much more forgiving to me

I would image it's becuase it gets compressed hugely when you upload it to fotango.

Now that is good, did you manage to get in any closer?

First one is my favourite though, if you want a couple of children to practice your portrait photography on just yell

Firstly, I get the impression that Fotango totally murders anything it hosts. If you want to impress, find a better one!
Secondly, when I resize an image (eg to 750 pixels wide for PH) I always sharpen it - it crisps it up beautifully. It's an illusion of course - you can't enlarge it afterwards as it looks awful, but it's just the job for the net.

I've only just graduated to taking the lens cap off before trying to take the picture, so I don't think that your girls should be subjected to me just yet!! How long can they sit still for?

Couldn't get closer to the ducks unfortunately. They did come nearer to the bank but they split up and started zooming about. That pic would have been cleaner with a tripod, but we were just out for a Sunday afternoon walk.

The best ones I got were of a group of lads playing footy. The ball went in the duck pond and a couple of them got in to get it back. It was freezing, and when they got out, their undies had gone transparent! I'll mail them to you!

Give the eldest one a lip gloss, and she would sit for the camera all day.

I think they will look great on the bedroom wall next to Simpos flower shots

Resize techniques as well as compression plays a big part in downsizing. (I know of a hosting website that makes a damn good job of it but don't want to sound like a stuck record!)
Depending on the technique, the size of the original and resized image, it's possible to have a resized image based on a very small percentage of the actual pixels in the original image.
A sharpen at the end can often pay dividends.

Some apps are exceptional - ThumbsPlus, BreezeBrowser.
Some are OK - MS Digital Image pro.
And there are many that are pretty arbritary - the autoresize feature of IE, the basic resize on here.
