After getting out the EOS1n to pose for a picture on John's tripod thread, it felt so good in my hands I went out and did a roll of Reala. I'm glad I did but, I hated not seeing what I'd just taken, I can't see the results untill Monday at the earliest (nothing but bars and restuants open on a Sunday here) and it's going to cost a bunch of Euros. I can feel a 1D coming on!

Martin.

Get a D70, you know you want to. Leave the dark side, the Farce is stronger here. You know it makes sense.

It's the only way to go....

Oh and compared to a D70?

D70 taking some shots :-

1) Finger presses button

...time passes....

2) After a while the mirror slowly moves upwards out of the way.

...more time passes....

3) Some thinking goes on and the shutter clicks and an image slowly dribbles on to the CF card.

1DmkII taking some shots :-

You think about pressing the shutter and there's-some-mad-clicking-noise-and-your-CF-is-half-full.

The only thing I'd say about the 1DmkII compared to your 20D is I bet you're going to find it a bit soft (image wise). Louder too.

Now the 1DsmkII... that's a different matter, but it's twice the price and slower. For the pictures I take speed is everything.

And that too.

Just thought I'd get my once-per-year cheap 406 style jibe in

No, NOT 'agent provocateur' and not cheap jibes. I have an opinion and that is - If you like a picture then that's all that matters. Some people get Anal about shots, others dont give a toss. Some people hate their pics being criticized. Me I dont worry about it. Life is too short for that sort of thing. I was bought up on Roll film and C220's and Bronica's - I have just sold mine. With digital and PSCS you can take an average sort of shot and make it look nice. I would like to see some of today's snappers manage without a PC.

IMHO of course

How many times have we had people asking how to fix some shot that was taken into the Sun and is all washed out? Basic photography doesn't change with digital, in fact it's harder. How often did we think about blown highlights with film?

A good shot is a good shot regardless of the kit. One of my favourite shots ever was taken with my Sony DSC-F1 with 4Mbit of RAM and a max res of 640*480.

When I first got my D70 I had a bad habit of leaving the continuous mode on, and when I'd try to take a single shot I would take three shots before I was able to get my finger off the button...

My bad habit - if you can call it that - is to use autobracket for a shot, then forget to take it off, so that all my subsequent (single) shots are, in turm -1, 0 and +1! I think autobracket should self-cancel.

If you shot RAW you wouldn't really need to bracket...

I know what you mean but a blown highlight is a blown highlight whether it's recorded as JPG or RAW.

That's what in-camera histograms, and the nice flashing 'blown bits' is all about...

However, bracketing still has it's place, but I tend to do 'self-bracketing' using the histogram
