Just back from my holidays in Scotland, well last week actually but been busy. I'm quite happy with a fair few shots I took and don't care that they "could be improved", just thought I'd show you where I was :D

Should point out I've done nothing since taking the images apart from resizing and downing the quality for web, which seems to have gone rather cuckoo this time. I'm busy re-writing the PHP and redesigning my site, the main thing involves a new DB structure and will be incompatible with the old system thus I'm taking the opportunity to redo all the albums with "choice" galleries along with ensuring all the pics included are glaringly dodgy.

I know that, but when I was up there I couldn't help but thinking about the Spagetti Westerns and imagined a load of "Indjuns" sitting on the top of the hills

Where'd you go? That road looks vaguely familiar.

the top road is the A939 from Ballater to Tomintoul.

Thought it looked familiar, is that the bit just after the bridge and the 90 right at the junction? The best road in the country.

don't think so, this was just after the hill which came out of Ballater, about 40mins slow drive or so. The corner at the bottom there did lead to the junction IIRC.

The other side of the hill was:

I'll certainly agree with on the best road in the country bit, starts off in lush woodland and along the valley floor before climbing steeply with absolutely stonking views.

Yes, that's the bit i mean. Down the hill, left junction, really steep bridge (i think), woody bit then a long right hander and up a long hill (v scary coming down as all you can see is sky, the road completely dissapears under the line of the bonnet).

Which way did you go from tomintoul? The road into Dufftown is a cracker too.
I usually do it on the opposite direction on a circuit out of Aberdeen (aberdeen>oyne>kennethmont>rynie>dufftown>tomintoul>ballater>south deeside road>aberdeen).

That's a shot from the middle of January last year. Amazing the difference in the scrub colur in the summer.

That is the A939 ? That looks like one of the roads used in the original Hitchcock film of The 39 Steps. When will they get around to putting tarmac on it ?!!

Sorry, can't resist at least one smartarse remark a day !

Good work

I'm a fan of numbers 3 (flowers), 5 (road) and 6 (bat on lake), some really nice images that give you the feeling of the wide open spaces of Scotland. Must have been an absolute blast up there.
