Rude girl, appologies if my comments came across the wrong way, I didn't mean any offence/ridicule with them at all. It just struck me as being a bit odd having never heard it mentioned before.

To add some science to the post, every alternator I have tested (allbeit only a handful) has read 14v+ at idle (14.4v is the norm), whereas the battery only gives out 12v without the engine running; so I figure it must be doing something. The potential current output of the alternator is possibly reduced at lower revs, I can certainly see how that works.

I've never seen an alternator in a modern car that doesn't charge the bat whilst idling . . .
