My first serious carshoot:

A 15 mins walk around with a D70. A bit cloudy, standard (what is it) 28-80 lens without filter. PS: little bit of contrast pep, de-blue the greens, en-profil pic has blackened glass, some scratch-dust-dead fly removing. About an hours work.

Hi Dinkel,
My thoughts are that they are generally underexposed (a DSLR trait, especially with light objects) and some are taken against the light.
IMO increasing contrast hasn't helped you; it's darkened the shadows which were already dark. Why did you de-blue the greens - what white balance setting are you on?
My PS action would be Levels to correct exposure and mid-tone brightness if required, then reduce image size as needed and sharpen.

I worked the levels and about the underexposed thingy: on my Mac the pics look good but on a PC they're a bit dark I know.
The darkest parts have perfect tone and look great on a 30 x 40 cm enlargement. Scaling the 24 mb files to this small loses some detail I guess . . .
I love taking pics with back light btw.

Oh you bicubic interpolator!
Well, that's all down to the webmaster . . . I scaled the original files down and sent the jpgs. Maybe there was another conversion from there . . .
The car is big and about 1480 kgs. Which I think is rather alot for an alu bodied sportscar . . . Tubulair spaceframe is only about 90 kgs. Heavy lump I guess.

not bad for a first go. You have however made the same mistakes that most people here do. You need to slow down and be more thorough: You must consider in more detail the direction of the light, the location and the time of day that you shoot, and plan your shoot accordingly.
From there you need to think about lens choice, and compositional aspects such as perspective more thoroughly.
You have to consider every aspect and element of an image for it to be a success. In this case you could have asked yourself the following for example:
Is that tree behind the car a distraction?
Has the amount of availabe light affected my exposure and do i need to compensate?
Could i remove the reflections on the glass with a polariser?
Is the camera straight?
How can I convey the character and story behind this car?
Just think a bit more before you shoot and Im sure you will have better results.

I just stepped out of the car after an hours drive and just started to shoot. Nothing planned . . . but I know what you mean. It's a bit raw now is it?

The 24 mb is a cmyk tiff / from 17 mb rgb tiff. You want an original file (1,9 rgb jpg) to check out?
I'm no expert, but the pictures seem a bit "flat". They lack the impact which the real car would have, and this may be a combination of the location, angle and lighting of them. However, white cars also seem to be harder to photograph with an appearance of soul, maybe its lack of reflection or something I dont know.
