Have amassed quite a few Neweer bits and bobs over the years. Nothing critical, mainly mounting brackets and the like having considered them to be cheap Chinese tat. But had a look at some of their lights and rigs at the Photography and Video Show at the NEC at the weekend and was mightily impressed. Seemed to be excellently made and for the money, super value.

Only recently my £500 Atomos field monitor gave up the ghost after just 18 months of use so had to dust off an old 4k Feelworld one I got off Amazon years ago for £140. Works a treat and apart from a few features, little different to the Atomos.

Any other cheap and cheerful makes worth knowing about?

Dont know if Godox is classed as cheap and cheerful (they are compared to Profoto!) but they're a first class, scaleable system , especially the AD200.

I have a few Neewer bits, also SmallRig are beautifully made accessories for their price.

I bought a Godox flash gun for approximately 1/3 the equivalent Sony unit, and it seems just fine. Not that I've used it yet, but just in case.

I bought a dedicated Godox flash when an old flashgun of mine misbehaved by not taking any notice of the settings. I was going to send mine off for repair and thought of the Godex as a temporary fix. I've had no problem in about three years. I wanted a remote fill-in, so bought another Godox, the latest, and it triggers the old one when it is on the camera. I use it a fair bit, so fingers crossed, but so far the pair has been excellent.

My latest model is the Godox TT350o 2.4G HSS 1/8000s TTL GN36 Camera Flash Speedlite for Olympus/Panasonic Mirrorless Digital Camera. Sort of rolls off the tongue. I bought it November last year, so haven't used it much. The only fault I've found with it is that the adjustments are not intuitive.

I've also got a few Neewer things and am happy with them.

Although not super cheap, Redsnapper do some high quality tripods and heads at good prices. Their RSH-12 ball head for £60 is extremely solid and well made. I've also experienced very good customer support from them, with Joe there replying quickly to emails and providing spare parts for one of their tripods after I'd managed to lose some bits. Highly recommended. thumbup

I've got some Neewer bits and bobs, they're absolutely fine for the price. I regard them as a couple of steps above Chinese tat, just a budget brand that I know won't disappoint.
