Another vote for BlackRapid - when I was more active in photography, I’d occasionally wander round a Motorsport venue with. D810 and a battery grip, plus a 200-500 lens. Chunky kit, but effortless with a decent over-shoulder strap - just let the camera hang by your hip while walking around. The clever slide system allowed me to just grab the body and pull it up to take a shot without tangling the strap.

Not cheap, but very effective and superb quality.

I got chatting to a guy at Lakenheath Fen this morning, all the usual stuff you talk about in a hide. When he got up to move on, I noticed his big full frame Nikon with big zoom on was on a Black Rapid strap.
I asked him if he finds the whole lot ‘pendulums’ around while he’s walking. He said, with a surprised look on his face, yes, it does, and it never used to do it with a 70-200 on. I told him that was pretty much the same as my experience, then showed him what the Peak Design solution is like with the two anchor points.

He made some notes on his phone straight away. He hadn’t even realised what a pain it had become trying to control the swinging camera and lens.

I use both peak design and black rapid .... peak design is great for anything up to pro dslr with a 70-200 2.8 imo. Beyond that, I prefer the black rapid for bigger primes etc
Can you explain what makes the difference with bigger primes?

Looks like Black Rapid is rising in the polls. I guess I have to go to a good shop now and try the Peak Design and the Black Rapid. Although the Black Rapid is a little more expensive, the difference is not huge.

Thank you all!
The peak design strap is imo a little if you've got a larger frame. It means at full length the camera sits too high (for me personally) and is uncomfortable when walking etc. The BR straps have limiter locks you can use to stop the lens moving too far.
Another issue I've had with the pd straps - if mounted on the camera strap lugs, the strap can get in the way when you're trying to shoot.
The BR shoulder cushioning is more padded and with the under arm clip, doesn't slip / fall off as easily as the pd.
I should qualify a bigger prime for me is a lens weighing over 3 kg's

Realised I needed a new strap amd hadn't heard of the ones discussed in this thread so it's been a useful read.

Just ordered a Peak Design slide lite in midnight blue.

One point I've found.

Those straps which screw into the tripod mount of the camera can give a problem for me. I have Arca-type bases on my two cameras, extremely useful for changing between monopod and tripod and table-top tripod. It's a system I find quick and easy, although the mounts I have are not 'quick release' as it says on the tin. I have to use a screw.

The two bases on the camera tend to move and ease, meaning they become loose.

Not a massive problem as when I'm using supports, I have a different, and quick release, camera strap I use.

This is how my PD strap attaches to my camera body and lens foot. Ok, not the heaviest lens by a long way, but I can carry this combo all day, and there’s no swinging.

Edit: those Allen screws haven’t loosened by themselves yet.

For most people, most of the time, it’s a good solution.

If I’m using one of my shorter lenses, I just use my PD wrist strap onto one of the camera lugs. The PD wrist straps are also excellent.

Just to add:

I use the BR straps, and when using one with an arca plate, it clips into the ring on the screw attachment for the arca plate, so when mounting the camera on a tripod, I just unclip the strap.

The caveat with this though is that it depends on the design of the arca plate. I did have one arca plate where the "ring" on the screw was too small for the strap clip to go through.

As the clip is going through the screw attachment for the arca plate, it IS possible after some use for the screw to work loose, although as I mentioned earlier in the thread, this only happened once when I first started using it. Since then, I always check it is tight when taking the camera out, and it hasn't been a problem since (in over 15 years).

When using the BR clip, I also have added a short length of plastic tube which prevents the clip from being opened accidentally. To open the clip, the tube needs to be pushed out of the way, then the clip opened.

Black Rapid strap attached to the ring of an arca plate - my default use these days, and for many years, as can be seen from the wear on the clip. Actually, thanks to this thread, and looking closely at the clip, I might well look at replacing this one fairly soon before it wears too much more! smile

Note - I've had these BR straps for many years, so I wouldn't be surprised if the design may have changed for current models.

Peak Design Strap with the tripod adapter. Plus lots of additional PD anchors for lenses and bags.

I also use arca Swiss plates on my cameras / lenses... to make the BR strap work, I've attached an acra Swiss clamp to the strap.... works great, you can get locking ones too, but this one's been great. Makes switching between gear very quick and easy

I use Peak, and have a permanent Arca plate onthe base of my D500, this has oneof the PD attachment points on it, so works with the straps and will also go on a tri/BI pod as required with zero faff.
Pretty much what I have, but with a Manfrotto plate as all my tripods are manfrotto based. Wrist grip is on permanently with extra clips for the shouder strap to be clipped on if required

Another Peak Design fan here. I felt like the Slide was a bit too bulky for my X-T2, and that I should have bought the Slide Light. However, since getting the XF 50-140mm I feel like it is better, I imagine that with the X-T4 being slightly larger you would want the Slide.

I am currently just using the strap eyelets either side of the body, but am going to experiment with other mounting options too, after being inspired by this thread.

If you want a traditional (D)SLR strap but very high quality, I can recommend Oberwerth https://gb.oberwerth.com/products/camerastrap-rhei...

I can only see them on smaller cameras with small lenses.
