Fantastic Ed! My macro rig is gathering dust at the minute but maybe I should have a dig about in the dead leaves smile

I got my first ever proper 'macro' lens for Christmas from the OH. Not up to the sharpness of others on here, but I was quite happy with snapping this handsome chap yesterday.

Focussing was really hard, what with him flitting about the place and my camera (Olympus) having a very small viewfinder.

A Box Bug. Once only found on Box Hill in Surrey, but gradually moving northwards. Found this inside my front room window in Warwickshire!

Wow - that is impressive how did you get the depth of field on that ? Or is it actually quite a big bee ?

Cheers - was f/11, good light and just the right angle I think. Its an average size bee, around 15-20mm long I guess.

Good grief.

Wild life and a selfie at the same time.

Bees are out in my area too, came across these Red Mason solitary bees building a nest in a riverbank.

I tried to take a shot of one inflight, and despite having a 1/2000 shutter speed on this, The wings are still blurred ! I need a bit more practise I think....maybe setup a tripod next to a flower and try to get one as it comes into land.

I haven't done macro photography in so long. Today was warm and lots of bugs were out so I grabbed my kit and forged a makeshift lighting setup as my ring flash was out of juice (it involved a 430EX II, a portable Westcott soft box and a Snap-on LED brick hehe).

Is there a recommended Nikon fit lens for entry level access to the macro world?
