Robberfly closeup in our Staffordshire garden (around 3x magnification with an MP-E lens + MT24-EX TwinLite). This turned out to be one of my most popular shots ever on Flickr. Had 7,500 views and 300 faves in around 24 hours.

having a play around in the garden with my macro lens this morning - also tried using the built-in flash for the first time with macro. I can see how this will help with using a larger DOF, but I think that I will be looking at trying one of the lower cost 'ring' lights that seem to be available now.

Also need to try and use my tripod and getting any real sharpness hand-held is a bloody nightmare :-)

I used the standard flash to fill in the spiders' feast.

No flash here:

Not easy to get a sharp image > spider was constantly moving about.

Hi folks,

I've been avoiding posting in this thread simply because of all the awesomeness that I can't even begin to replicate. Some of your photos are stunning!

I recently picked up a Canon 70D plus a 100mm macro lens which has eaten up a lot of my time - I go on lots of walks now just to brush up my technique and understanding!

Here are some of my better results:

Comments and criticisms welcome smile

Sometimes, for no apparent reason, a shot on Flickr will be particularly popular. This one had over 14,000 views and 240 "faves" in just a few days. Other similar shots or stuff that I feel is "better" or more interesting, creates little interest. Suppose I should just be pleased that sometimes; something works!

I can see why thats popular! It gives the impression of something very very tiny in a very big world, and it looks like he is on a journey or going somewhere. It tells a bit of a story i guess, as well as being a technically very good shot smile

Got this a wee while back - I usually try to keep the whole beast in shot but went for a massive crop on this just to see how it turned out. C+C welcomed smile

You're having these made by a film set modeller aren't you!

Just pretending they are original size size and macro shots .....

I keep expecting to see Jeff Goldblum's face appear.

wink

Was this just the lens and a ridiculous crop or lens and enhancer (and still a deep crop?)

Either way the lighting seems spot on and the detail excellent. Bravo.

100mm macro lens + Raynox150 + a big crop! Just playing around really to see how much of a crop I could get away with but still leave sufficient resolution for a web screen smile
