my first D-SLR.......any recommendations please?

UPDATE
I'm ashamed to say this but since buying this camera I'd hardly used it at all last year, and when I did it was on full Auto
the "compact digi" years have made me lazy....always quick and easier to just grab the SX120IS instead, so the 1000D was left neglected
NOT ANY MORE
I've decided to get right back into the thick of it with the DSLR, forcing myself (as it were) to use it for everything and to really get back into my photography
you'll be seeing a lot more of and from me in this forum from now on
let the good times roll

I'm sure there are a good few people on here who are closely involved with professional photography who can help you, as well as plenty of enthusiasts. I'm lucky to count myself one of the former so I'll keep an eye out in this part of PH.
