More birdies today. I visited a falconry centre just outside Winchester with some friends.

One of my partners in crime..

Only an enthusiastic amateur but the challenge of photographing birds is something I enjoy

Managed to catch this guy (apparently a Rock Kestrel?) on Chapman's Peak Drive in SA a while ago, took lots of different photos as he swooped around and hovered, this is my favourite as I was shooting just as he looked directly down the lens

D5000 + Cheapy Tamron 70-300mm lens, resized to fit screen

Nice! Can I ask what lens you are using?

Funnily enough, in the last couple of weeks we've been visited for the first time by a Nuthatch and a Greater Spotted Woodpecker ourselves on our birdfeeder in suburban Warrington. Been feeding the birds for a good 5 years consistently, so it is a bit of a coup as they each come back a few times a day.

I've got some photos through glass - two sets of double glazing - as I can't get into the conservatory without them scarpering as the birdfeeder is only 6ft from the conservatory. So, the photos are a bit out of focus, and compared to yours they are not worth posting - but I shall persevere until they get tame enough for me to get a bit closer.

Justin, i was using a 70-300 the Nuthatch was shot at 300mm and the Woodpecker was at 240mm .If you have not got a lens long enough you could always try setting the camera on a tripod with a remote trigger

This little fella seen hanging around the car park of my local airfield yesterday...Only had my standard lens on at the time so had to creep in close....cropped a bit too, so not as sharp as I would have liked, but you have to take the shot when you see it. So I took it...

A bit further away than the lone wolf when I took this pic of him hunting in a sea lagoon.
