This was at 300yards so its a little soft. I have been trying to get a decent shot of this wild Heron for 3 months - hard work as he will fly off if you get within 200 yards.
On a roll with this Heron thing, this is a younger one, same location.

Thanks. No, I rarely use flash for anything, especially birds. I look for perches in good natural light and set up my camera accordingly, in this case 1/1250 sec at f/5.6 and ISO 320. For small birds like this I like to stay at a shutter speed of at least 1/800 sec, because even if they're perched they're always moving so any slower will likely show motion blur.LongQ said:
