As snipe from this morning. This is a heavy crop from 700mm, still came out reasonably well I think at least!

First test of my new toy ( T16A teleconvertor ) and this happened in front of me....not perfect as I was fumbling to set exposure and shutter speed correctly.

This is a great shot, really cool behaviour to capture smile

Few from me recently:

Can't seem to be able to get close to the coal tits or bullfinches.

I normally rely heavily on cropping as I only have a 70-200mm f4 lens at my disposal, but not when I've shot them at such a high ISO. Better luck next time maybe smile

Nice shot.

There's a little Chromatic Aberation evident on the beak. The image can live with it as it is but I'm interested to know if fixing it makes any difference to the detail in the feathers.

Have you tried it? If so, what happened?

No I haven't tried fixing it, I can't see it on the original, all I can see is what looks like the light reflection on the beak as this was taken with the bird in the shade. I would have thought there would be a slight loss of detail if I removed the CA. The shot was taken from behind double glazing, so I can't expect it too be too good for detail.

Just a touch of blue on the highlights of the beak. It's not easy to assess whether there is any vague effect on the feathers. If there is there is a little potential for additional detail to be available but it's not guaranteed. Worth a look though.

ETA: I downloaded the largest version and experimented a little. It didn't make much difference although I could get a tad more sharpening to work in the feather detail but had to look hard to see the difference. There might be a bit more to gain if starting from a RAW file if one was being very picky and prepared to work for it.

Noticed some of you guy's are using spot metering for birding. Is there any particular advantage to do so?

That looks like a long tailed tit to me rather than a coal tit.

Some of these pictures are really stunning and I'd just like to say thanks to all who post them as they brighten my day.

You're absolutely right, thanks for that, will change the title smile

I was treated to my first sighting of a tawny owl and it was in a tree in my garden!

Don't worry it was only a little 'owler.

It'll be a hoot for some to laugh at and we can't all be talonted at identifying birds.
