The birds they mock me
Discussion
Not been much good light for birding, but managed to catch this Heron just dipping the tip of his wing into the water.

Keas will hop right up and steal your camera if you let them! Very intelligent, inquisitive birds and quite unafraid of humans. They're an alpine parrot so you have to be in the right parts of the country to see them.
We have more native birds than anything else really, our only native mammal is some kind of bat! So plenty of scope for birding. Many of them are small and fast-moving though, so its not always easy.
Given the amount of coastline its never too hard to find sea birds either, including albatross and penguins in the southern regions.
I'm probably biased here, but for landscapes and birds its a bit of a photographers dream.

I haven't had the chance to photograph birds much of late, so last week I was pleased when the spare hour I had yielded reasonable light and a varied selection. Here's some of them:

Sorry Mark as I am starting to sound like a broken record but these are insanely good - some of the best bird portraits I have seen. Composition, sharpness, processing - all off the scale
Thanks Mike Much as I enjoy doing birds I've hardly done any recently, must try harder! They are great Chris, is the background manually vignetted out ? They almost have the feel of studio shots.
I don't normally shoot long tailed tits, but I loved the bokeh of this one in a blackberry bush
