The birds they mock me

And a couple more, again from Florida. Why do they call them Little Blue Herons when they're quite obviously purple and grey?

Quite happy with a series of shots from last weekend.

ETA: Is it just me or do they look oversharpened in here? I did apply a bit more sharpening than usual but the originals look much smoother than that, maybe something to do with flickr compression?

Cheers
The first few do have some noise due to ISO3200 on a D7000, but they still look much cleaner in lightroom than flickr.
I guess I could upload less sharpened versions to flickr to compensate for it, but I don't think I can really be bothered.
PS - the last two above were shot with a Sigma 105 macro I picked up cheap second-hand recently, rather liking it!

thanks Derek to be fair a lot of the credit goes to John Stanton who built the hides and the sets and has attracted lots of birds, I just had to sit there and take the photos. Well worth a visit for anyone in the Sussex area. http://www.johnstantonphotography.co.uk/

That is really nice Dibbly ! Still impressed by the shots that come out of that Sony. Looks to be a lot of post in that shot but still noise and dynamic range is excellent especially on a black bird that is a bstard to drag that kind of detail out of.
True.I don't think you could crop much more of the post out though. Not without losing the barbed wire and I think that's quite an important part of the image in context.

Is there anything else with a tail like a Red Kite?
I didn't have camera to hand but a bird of prey just flew over me and I had a fantastic view of the outline. Just so surprised if it is a Red Kite because I'm in south west Hertfordshire!
There are loads near High Wycombe... not too far away (for a Kite)I didn't have camera to hand but a bird of prey just flew over me and I had a fantastic view of the outline. Just so surprised if it is a Red Kite because I'm in south west Hertfordshire!
