Wild life photography is all about patience.................
Or luck. Sometimes wildlife photography is just about shear dumb luck . . .Wild life photography is all about patience.................
I was outside in the garden, pegging laundry on the line. One moment there's nothing on the garden fence, I bend down to grab another pair of pants to hang out, look up and this beauty has arrived. I put the laundry down and crept into the house, ran upstairs to grab the camera, and took the first photo hurriedly through a bedroom window. Then I ran downstairs and carefully crept back out of the kitchen door. Keeping the washing line between me and the bird, I took a few more shots. It flew down into my garden, onto a wire ball we have that is lit with solar lights. It groomed itself for a moment, then hopped back up onto the fence. All the while, I'm standing about 12 to 15 metres away, snapping away with the camera. Eventually I got a bit too bold, and off it flew, fast and low into a neighbour's garden.
All taken in a rush, with a Canon EOS 40D and a Tamron 70-300mm lens. Less than £150-worth of gear, all bought used from local camera shops and pawn shops. I just feel incredibly fortunate to have been graced with it's presence for a brief few minutes, and lucky that I spotted it while doing the laundry!
Sparrowhawk (female) as far as I can tell.
