Hmm - well with me that's probably because they are oversharpened! I did have another version of this with even more but toned it back - maybe not by enough. In my defence I also have a Fuji which takes a lot more sharpening that my Canon (which this was shot with) - I'll be getting a Fuji 100-400 at some point to replace the Canon 400 but they are still very pricey smile

A few photos I took at Rufford Abbey on Sunday. Apologies for the low quality in advance though keen to improve.

As always I'm stunningly impressed by the quality of photographs posted on here which keep inspiring me to do better, so as a first attempt at photographing a few birds on the back garden these photos made me laugh, and made me think that even in in nature, some birds are more equal than others, and in this instance, the somewhat fat pigeon is certainly using its brain by sitting beneath the birds feeding on the food above.

Bird brain indeed wink

Just spent a fantastic week on Jersey. So many photo opportunities. Aside from the stunning coastline here are a few birds:

Apologies as some a little grainy. I was out at dawn and dusk mostly.

There are 4 Marsh Harriers on the wetlands and the 6am, misty rambles in the bushes thrown up some interesting sights.

Plenty of geese knocking about too:

I've no idea what this bird of prey was as it was pretty dark, but it sure did fancy a bit of that pigeon.

More fantastic photos that put mine to shame, having said that, I find it most satisfying to actually take a photo close up without the subject matter flying away!

So a few photos I took today at Rufford Abbey whilst enjoying the gorgeous weather.

Please note that I've reduced the image size to 1600px for uploading onto the forum.

The pair of Marsh Harriers that mated successfully last year have returned to my local reserve. Spent an hour or so watching them collecting nest building material Saturday, hopefully come late summer there will be young flying around like lat year.
