Got my Tom Tom at Christmas for the trip. After spending several hours yesterday and conacting Tom Tom, got the same answer. Pile of Poo I say!
Tried a memory card but that would not load either. Found a link on some strange site that seemed to suggest the card can be no bigger than 2GB, mine was 4GB so I have ordered a 2GB card as a last resort to try. Not holding out much hope so have just ordered a map.

Stew

I am just starting to look at loading info to a nav. This is new to me as the everyday car has it in the dashboard and would need a chainsaw to get it out.... I may use my co pilots' Garmin, a borrowed no name nav, or go out and buy a cheap navman (which takes TOMTOM mapping) from Halfords for 69.99. If you want a short trip down the A46 we could compare notes.

Cheers
Tony

Hi Tony.
The good people at Tom Tom told me I could not do it on the model I have (don't get a Tom Tom Via if you get one). As the memory card was only £2.50, I thought I would give it a go. Doubt I will get time to play with it again before the weekend but we can sort something out after that if you and I are still struggling.
Cheers, Stew.

A daily postcode would be a good idea, where would we get them from? or is that a daft question?

You could use a daily postcode, the info is available in the PIMP Longers put together. By using the postcode of the end destination Sat Nav systems will generally take you there, either by using the quickest or shortest route depending how you have it set up.

The routes that Longers has provided makes the most of the great "driving" roads available off the beaten track.

I have a Garmin Sat Nav that also doesn't let you download files. It would appear that generally, newer (I would suggest less than one year old) Sat Nav systems no longer have the option to download pre planned routes. The Garmin I have has a "Route Planner" option that lets me plot routes using waypoints or Points of Interest (POI) to input and save the route I want. I have spent some time getting all the routes into the sat nav using the maps that Longers supplied to ensure I'm going the same way.

From experience it is worth following the routes suggested thumbupdriving but entirely up to you.

Things were going incredibly well....
I discovered my TomTom is already loaded with European maps, good. smile
Downloaded and installed Tyre ver 6.0 (which looks a little different to screen shots in Ians satnav guide doc), very good - could use this for work. smilesmile
Opened and copied all the .itn files to TomTom, great stuff. smile
Then discovered my TomTom 'Start' is not compatible with itinerary files. frown

so need to 'Start' thinking about a replacement satnav!!
or maybe just follow the car in front.......

If push comes to shove I will load the individual coordinates into a nav. It wont take too long but it just needs a level of accuracy to ensure that one of the waypoints is not in Nova Scotia......

If recreating the routes yourself make sure the coordinates are on the correct side of any dual carriageways or you'll be doubling back on yourself - dont ask how I know this! We're not on dual carriageways much so shouldn't be a problem wink

Great idea Chris, but wrong country... oh, no it's not, I can see Belgium on the cover as well!

I recommend one of these:

It's a PROPER map, the size of a tablecloth, not one cut into little squares and stapled together
wink
