Rumour has it you can't have too much?

Courtesy of the Olympics I had a dollop of overtime coming so wasted a bit of it on a set of these, well not exactly, spoke to them and they did me a set of 16 for a Cologne V6 (didn't need the screws, but if you do ask for M6, the Essex is 1/4unc)

they're not actually very bling when you get them, more a sort of dull silver but a few minutes with some fine enery cloth and things are looking better ( unlike my poor photo), as received on right, initial polish on left

They look like rocker cover washers, I soaked mine in
vinigar.

Mine came out great, until the air got to them and they went rusty again.

Oh the joy of owning ( enter your description here )

LOL.

Bloody show-off! smile

Are they stainless Mike?

I sprayed mine silver, but you'd never know it with all the oil! I must sort out those rocker covers of mine. Originals were v. corroded,
maybe the replacements I fitted have been overtightened in a previous existence.
I was very careful not to over torque them.

Mind you, its only used a pint of oil in 5000 miles, so not too bad.
A little goes a long way, & helps preserve the chassis!

Good! When I fitted new gaskets and stainless cap heads, I managed to drop one of those funny washers. Could I find it again? And, no the rocker covers were on by this time.... Do you think it feasible to replace the washers without creating an oil leak at the gasket?

Cheers

Hi Tony, if you change them one at a time and retorque the bolt there is no reason for oil to leak out.

Hope so !

that's what I did last night on the Taimar (Essex V6 only 6 screws per cover), want to run through the valve clearances on the S anyway so not an issue , unlike my ever rattley tappets irked

I had considered this stainless upgrade when I sprayed my rocker covers, but then ended up with a new shiny radiator (which was slightly more important at the time!).
In the end I used zinc spray on the washers/spreaders which sort of does the job.
I too dropped one (yes covers were on) and have never found it – I searched all the nooks and crannies including the bonnet which usually collects all the debris when it is up.
So ended up buying a new one from the local Ford dealer for 90p or so.
This may be a ‘sucking eggs’ comment but it might be worth noting these come in two shapes…. Corner washers and Straight washers – if you get them mixed up (which I did ) they still fit and work as spreaders but don’t look correct.
In the picture it looks like you have 2 more ‘corners’ than ‘straights’ - or is this an optical illusion. Although you did say you only need 12 to do the Taimar, so you will end up with some spares!!

I think in certain counties its possible to have them gold plated. Its a place next to the hairdressers, just before the nail parlour and spray tan shop.

Me? Jealous, No, Never.
