Hello All

I have recently had a spate of starting issues which are now well behind me (touch wood). Basically I though I had the sticky starter syndrome where every now and again I would need to rock the car back and forth in gear then try again.. This also worked without fail so I was putting up with it when I only had to do it once every few days then it became 50% the 75% then every damn time I attempted to start the car.. I knew the stater, battery etc were fine and had the power to starter lead replaced to.. this worked for a while. then it began to get worse again.. Anyhow I suspected the earth straps (was thrown off this for a while because rocking worked.) so have now replaced the battery to chassis and the chassis to engine straps and problem solved.. its so good to have her start on demand again.. the straps replaced were in a pretty bad state, corroded and very hard..

I got some straps like this from eBay and the price, service and quality are fantastic.. I went for 170A as these will have slightly lower resistance. As you can see they are fully sealed unlike the poor quality TVR originals and also the crimping is way better. If you contact the guy you can specify colour (red/black) length and end sizes no problem. NB the one to the engine is a 10mm end.

Anyways I highly reccommend this supplier.

Thanks

Hi Damian,

Whilst my steering rack is removed I had a look at my Earth wires on my S2, I have one that goes from the battery to one of the bolts holding the swirl pot in place and one other that's bolted to the chassis and then dissapears into a loom, I can't see or locate any others namely one connecting the engine to chassis so assume the S3 if different to the S2.

Mine (S3)has a dedicated earth stud on the main chassis rail, near the swirl pot.

engine is earthed to chassis down by the gearbox support cross member.
