Just wanted to know if the mock quarter light is cosmetic only or does the vertical bar/stay actually do anything ? got one of mine removed at the moment and the window/door looks a lot cleaner without it.

I think my biggest concern would be driving at speed with the window up and roof on... The front window runner wouldn't be there and wind could get between the roof seal and the glass... that'd put pressure on the glass to "lift" away from the seal and without the strut there to support it it'd be under a fair bit of stress.

Hi Jules, I didn't mean remove the whole item just the vertical section about 6 inches back from the front of the door, the main section that sits against the windscreen pillar and containing the strip that the glass runs would of course remain.

I have thought this, it does not seem to have any benefit being there except to trap your hand as you "help" the electric window to close.

Hmmm, well it's triangular which is a really strong shape, taking the vertical strut out would significantly reduce the structural integrity of that whole piece..
I'm not saying it won't work, but I don't think I'd be tempted to try it on mine..
